Golf Club Buying Guide - The Essentials

By: Matthew Hick
If you are fairly new to the game, or just new to actually going out and purchasing a club on your own, read through our quick golf club buying guide. It is sure to set you straight on what you need to know about buying the perfect golf club for your needs. What kind of golf clubs do you have to choose from?First, let's take a look at the types of golf clubs that make up a set. Typically, a golfer carries fourteen or fewer clubs in his or her bag. The four basic types of these golf clubs are Woods, Irons, Wedges, and Putters.Another popular type of golf club nowadays is the Hybrid club. The Hybrid club is a cross between the Iron and the Wood, and is made for people who have difficulty using these other types of clubs. But before you get confused, let's break these categories down a bit and take a closer look at them.Woods:Woods are usually used to hit long golf shots. Standard woods that are carried in a golf bag are 1, 3, and 5 Woods. Your 1 Wood is typically your driver. As the number of your wood increases (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) you lose the amount of distance it can go, but you gain a higher trajectory. Recent golf club technology has made higher lofted woods for shorter distances. Irons:Iron clubs are mostly used for shots that are expected to go an average distance - typically from 125 to 200 yards. The lower the number of iron, the less degree on the face of the iron - resulting in the longer amount of distance the ball can go. On the other hand, the higher the number of iron, the higher the degree on the face of the iron - resulting in the higher the loft a ball has. The most popular irons used are 3 Irons though 9 Irons, however, many companies also manufacture 1 Irons as well as 10 Irons. Wedges:Wedges are used for semi-short golfshots. They are also used for chipping, and sand shots. There are several types of Wedges, including sand wedges, pitching wedges, and lob wedges.Putters:If you have ever watched a golfer up on the green, trying to hit a short shot into the hole, then he or she was most likely using a putter. A putter is a golf club that has a low loft. This enables the ball to roll father. A putter is typically shorter than all of your other golf clubs. Should you buy new or used clubs? Now that you understand a little bit more about your golf clubs, you must decide whether you want to purchase a new or used set. If you are fairly inexperienced, you may lean towards buying used clubs, instead of spending a great deal of money on a new purchase. However, when buying used clubs you should be wary about defects such as cracked shafts or worn grips. After all, these things will certainly not help you learn the game the right way. And, they may accumulate into worse money problems in the end. Our advice to anyone starting off new to the game of golf, is to invest in a new set that works right with your height and build. It doesn't have to be the most expensive set - but simply something that you can learn well on. Should you purchase a complete set or put one together on your own?One thing you should realize when putting together a golf set by yourself is that it will be a more expensive route to take then simply buying a set that is already put together. Putting together your own set can be quite confusing if you are merely a beginner. Our advice for starters is to get a complete starter set and go from there. If you have leftover money, you may be better off to spend it on some golf lessons. Leave the picking and choosing to more advanced players who know exactly what they want. In closing, have fun with your new golf clubs. Use them to learn how to excel in this challenging and entertaining game!

Get Away From It All With Golf Holidays

By: Gregg Hall
If you have been working too hard for too long and just need to get away and play some golf, you will want to check out golf holidays package vacations from your travel agent. These travel arrangements are often referred to as "stay and play" plans because you stay at a certain hotel and receive rights to play at a certain golf course while you are there. When making these arrangements, make sure there are not special requirements that will make playing inconvenient or impossible for you. Some of these plans require you to limit your arrival dates and departure dates or have other unacceptable limits so read the fine print. You can take golf holidays to all sorts of locations depending on your personality and desires. For instance, you can choose to golf in a course located near or in a major city, taking in museums or theatres when not golfing. Or you might choose to visit a golf course in an area of rugged natural beauty such as the mountains. While there, you might take a day to fish instead of golf. Whatever your needs, you can find golf holidays packages to meet your needs. Are you going to take your own golf clubs with you when you travel on golf holidays? You probably would prefer to use them rather than the clubs that can be rented at the course to which you are traveling. If you choose to take them with you, you will need to think about the arrangements a bit. For instance, do you have a really high quality golf club bag which will protect those expensive golf clubs? If not, you'd better get one. You won't be able to carry your clubs on if you are flying, so you'll need a bag that can take airport luggage handling and still protect your clubs. So get a good one. When picking a destination for golf holidays, pick the course you wish to play on first, and then find out about lodging at hotels, resorts, or stay and play package plans. Make sure the tee times that are set for you when choosing a stay and play package are going to work for you. People who are staying at a golf course's own resort generally get first serve when choosing tee times. If it's really important to you to get the tee time you desire, it may be worth it to you to stay at the resort instead of a less expensive hotel. Either way, you are sure to find refreshment and restoration when taking golf holidays.

Get Your Own Putting Green

By: Gregg Hall
No, not just a color in your Crayola Box, it is now possible to have your own private putting green in your own yard. For the avid golfer it might seem like a dream come true to have your own green. Do they know what is involved? Let's look at some facts.Greens are expensive to build and need special maintenance. If you are determined to have one then we will fill you in on some facts. The first thing you ought to know is that taking care of greens will need a great deal of work. One of the first items to be considered is drainage. To maintain a green in good putting condition, the water has to be able to drain off properly. It does need to be watered, but in watering, it also should be well drained. If you want to have your own green, you should be able to spot disease, insect problems, and fertility issues. One thunderstorm can tell you if you have enough drainage. Some greens need to be surrounded by perforated pipes to carry the water to a distance away from the green or to a private stream.Seeding is a problem, knowing what seed to plant for your location and making it look great is another problem. If you consider using sod, you should know that it is expensive. Seeded greens have to be pampered while the grass is taking hold. There is a fine line between waiting too long to mow and weakening the turf, making it open to blight, and mowing it too soon. The grass could be so young and tender that a regular mower will mash it down. Green mowers are also an important cost factor to consider. New mowers can cost $5000 or more and used mowers are known to be priced as high as $1000. Toro makes a special mower just for greens. Controlling such diseases as pythium, sod webworm and cut worm as well as algae and moss has to be done consistently. Regular treatment needs to be applied and if a treatment is missed, you could find your green overrun by disease in the space of one week.Building a green can be done either by USGA specifications or by using less expensive material and less elaborate drainage designs. USGA specifications can make the cost of your green anywhere from $20,000 to $80,000. A good design is one where the green is above the surrounding lawn area with sandy loam topsoil. It also requires about a one-percent slope for satisfactory drainage. Many experts also recommend an irrigation system so you won't have the inconvenience of watering the green by hand. What grass do you want for you own backyard green? Again that is going to depend on where you are located. You have to consider if you are in the warm season zone or the cool season zone. There are many basic grasses that are used on nearly any golf course and there are also grasses that have been specifically developed for golf courses. In the cooler climate, these seeds are suggested for your green. For one hole of golf, in the tee areas it is recommended that you use bentgrass while roughs and fairways require bluegrass. Hazards can also be planted with rough bluegrass and other ground covers. In the southern or warmer zone, the recommendations are as follows. Tee areas should use Hybrid Bermuda, for fairways Bermuda, Ryegrass, and Zoysia is recommended. Roughs require Bahias, St. Augustine, Common Bermuda, and Ryegrasses.Another question that you will need to answer is; do I need a special lawn mower? A standard rotary motor is not the right mower for keeping a green. It is important that you use a mower that pinches off the grass rather than chopping it. Look around for the best deal on these mowers.Maintenance time should not be so time-consuming that you can't enjoy your private putting green. It can give you hours of enjoyment and practice in the comfort of your backyard and if you especially enjoy gardening, it will be well worth the effort. Landscaping and preserving a golf green can be fun and relaxing, and you have the added benefit of being able to improve your game at home instead of going to a course to practice.

What Are My Choices In Powered Golf Carts?

By: Bill Urell
When choosing from a range of powered golf carts how do you know if what you want is gas or electric powered? Or perhaps what you really want in the powered golf carts you are looking at is one that is run by solar power. What are the strengths and weaknesses of these choices? Gas fueled golf carts are run on gas just like the average car does. They can be purchased to run on unleaded gas, which is what most people use, or you can get ones that run on diesel. Diesel is cheaper than gas. With these gas golf carts it is suggested you always carry a can of gas with you just in case you run out somewhere on the course. By doing this, no matter where you are on the golf course you will always be able to get around. That is one of the reasons that these gas powered golf carts are so popular. As well, the newer four-cycle models do run cleaner and quieter than the older two cycle models.Electric powered golf carts do not have this advantage. When you run out of power, that is it. You are stuck wherever you stopped. There is no plug in the middle of the golf course to recharge your cart. The advantage of these electric powered golf carts is that they are environmentally friendlier since they do not pollute at all. They also tend to run quieter than their gas powered counterparts and are also cheaper to operate.New models are being worked on with different fuels to make them less expensive and cleaner to run. Many companies are experimenting with hydrogen, solar and even hybrid gas/electric powered golf carts. Tests on golf carts that can run on solar power are still in progress. They have a photovoltaic appliance built into the golf cart roof and so the machine can recharge its batteries with free, renewable, non-polluting power. These are finding good results in their tests and so some of the golf courses are using these solar golf carts. They are working so well that once charged they could be used to complete an eighteen-hole course four times before they require recharging. Once you have decided what kind of golf carts you prefer and what they should be powered by you will need to decide if you want to buy a new or used one. The basic models range from four thousand five hundred dollars and up depending on size and power. Perhaps it is worth looking at a good used model instead. These can be bought through the classified ads or from dealerships just like the new models and will save you substantial on the purchase price.

What Is The Best Way To Learn the Correct Golf Swing Quickly?

By: Gregg Hall
In any type of game, you should start with the basics. This is the key in learning how to play the game. A game that seems easy to play is golf, especially if you are just watching it on television. While watching, you have the perception that if they can do it, so can you. It is ok to think like that, however, golf is a more complex game than you could ever imagine. It is very important that you develop the correct golf swing to be able to hit the ball so it goes a long distance in the right direction. First, you must learn about the correct golf swing plane and how important is it in playing golf. The golf swing plane is the trajectory or the route that the ball takes after you hit it with your golf club. So you see it is more of a physics thing. It is very important to use the correct golf swing so that you can put the ball where you want it. Try to create this kind of picture in your mind: if it is hit this way, it will go in that direction. The correct golf swing is not easily achieved with just a single practice session. You need the help of golf trainers to really learn the correct golf swing. Some golfers make a video recording of their swing to see what needs to be worked on. Doing this helps to correct your posture to get the desired angle in your swing. Some golfers use golf clubs with laser lights to help them determine the trajectory of the ball. However, you should only use this type of golf aid if your trainer recommends it. Don't ignore your trainer and go ahead and use it if he says not to because it could actually hinder you in learning the correct golf swing. If you get used to using the device, you could find that you cannot do without it. It should only serve as a guide. Some avid golfers practice their golf swing in their offices and at home. They practice a lot to develop and keep the correct golf swing they need. You also have to condition your body so you can use the correct golf swing. If your body is not in good shape, you could twist your back out and be unable to play golf at all. So work on your flexibility and strength. You will be able to develop a good swing and follow-through for full enjoyment of the game.

How And When To Practice Your Golf Swing

By: Gregg Hall
The key to becoming a better golfer is to learn the techniques of a better golf swing. Beginners need to learn the basics of the golf swing to be able to play the game, but it requires a lot of practice to learn this important part of the game of golf. This should come as no surprise, it is the same in any sport, if you want to get better you have to practice and in golf your swing is crucial.A better golf swing is very important, but the golfer should not rely solely on the swing techniques. He or she should also consider the different aspects of a better swing. Don't try to practice your golf swing while playing a round of golf. Use the driving range for that. The driving range enables you to concentrate only on your swing, making the practice more effective. If you are on the golf course, you should think about the proper angle to put the ball on the green. You should concentrate on hitting the ball rather than thinking about the kind of swing you will use to hit the ball. You want the swing to become automatic. It isn't easy not think about the swing when you are playing golf. Only a few golfers are able to block thoughts of how to better their swing while hitting the golf ball. They are mostly professional golfers who have honed their skills for a long time. The key to a developing a better swing is not thinking about the swing while trying to get the ball in the hole. You should learn to relax and concentrate. Thinking about your swing should only be done when you are practicing it or at home, if you try to practice it during a round, your golf partners may think that you are having a hard time hitting the ball. This is because thinking about the swing while trying to pit the ball in the right spot will divide your attention. Consistent and correct practice, hopefully with the supervision of an instructor is the key to becoming a better player. There are no magic bullets that will do the trick, your future in golf depends on your determination and the condition of your muscles. Learning this technique is not easy. You have to be patient and try to put more concentration on the game. Condition yourself physically and mentally to improve and enjoy your game.

Some Of The Best Golf Training Drills To Help Improve Your Golf Swing

By: Gregg Hall
If you are like many golfers, you want to improve your driver golf swing. Though many players may not be aware of how they can do this. Consider using some drills to enhance your already good drive golf swing, to a great one that will help you take some strokes off of your score. Practice drills are designed to help a player improve their swing and learn the game of golf. What are golf drills? Many golf drills are designed to allow the player to conduct a series of exercises all focusing on one specific skill or attribute in the game of golf. The drills are generally conducted in a different way than an actual golf game is conducted, therefore the player may view the drills as out of place or odd looking. Drills only have the results of improving the game of golf, not playing the game of golf. The following are a few drill methods that you can use to improve your personal golf swing:The Easy Driver DrillThis drill is a classic one; simply go to your favorite driving range. Hitting the 150 flag is the only goal you should have in your mind. By using this drill, in no time flat, you will find your golf swing has improved dramatically. The Hip Turn DrillThis drill can be used with any type of club. The drill is designed to create alignment of the hip and sometimes golfers use it as a gimmick trick shot.To conduct this drill, swing the driver with one arm and keep your body square at all times. You may look a little out of place or odd to other players, but who is developing their hip rotation and who is not? Proper hip rotation is crucial in the game of golf.Give no Quarter DrillAnother drill that may leave you feeling a little silly, but works nevertheless is the Give No Quarter Drill. This drill works well in developing the swing on all clubs. This drill has the sole purpose of helping you develop balance in your swing. Here is how it works; you would put a quarter on the foot of your lead leg, prior to swinging. The whole objective is to maintain the quarter on your foot during your swings. If you have bad balance, the quarter falls off. If the quarter remains, your balance is looking good.By implementing and practicing these drills, you will find that your good driver golf swing, turns into a great one in very little time.

The Basics Of A Good Golf Game Begin With Your Swing

By: Gregg Hall
Are you familiar with golf? Have you ever been to the golf course and played a round? If you are familiar with golf, you know that this game is not only a game of strength but also a game of timing and strategy. If you watch television, you might have seen a professional golfer hit the golf ball so that it lands on the green. It may seem easy to do but it isn't. If you are not an expert golf player, you might consider yourself lucky to hit the golf ball in one try, let alone landing it on the green. You need strength to hit the ball but strength alone is not enough Just like other ball games, you need physics to get the ball to go in the direction you want. Below is some of the basics of the golf swing that you should learn to understand golf and make your game a lot better. As with any sport, taking the time to get the basics down is the first step to mastering the game.To understand the basic golf swing, you must first understand the functions of each gold club in your golf bag. Golf clubs are designed for hitting the ball a certain distance and with just the right force. After you have learned the use of each golf club, you must learn about the force you should exert in using each golf club. You don't have to build a huge mass of muscles like Arnold Schwarzenegger, all you need is to condition your muscles enough for the basic golf swing. There are certain exercises that help in conditioning your muscles. They will increase strength and flexibility of the golfer's muscles, making the basic golf swing easier. Also, you need to know how to position your body properly for the basic golf swing so the club will connect with the ball at the correct angle. This is very important to get the right angle to put the ball on the green. The basic golf swing cannot be learned all at once. You need consistent and correct practice to learn to play golf. You can read books or do research online about the basic golf swing, but nothing beats actually practicing. If you want, you can ask someone to help you learn about the basic golf swing like a friend who knows how to play golf or you can ask golf instructors to help you.

What Are Golf Balls Made Of That Make Them Go So Far?

By: Gregg Hall
In the chemistry of air pressure, turbulence, and aerodynamics, surface structures are vital physical element. History has it that there are things that seem to be peculiar on their make-up hundreds of years ago which eventually came up with a better composition based on scientific research. And a golf ball is the best paradigm of this theoretical stand in history.During the earliest days of golf on the eastern coast of Scotland, most players used ancient apparatus in order to play the game in a more disorganized and informal way. Here, the first clubs and golf balls are made up of wood.It was on 1618 that the feather golf ball was finally introduced. This was commonly known as the "Featherie". This feather golf ball was a handcrafted ball made with goose feathers securely pressed into a horse or cowhide sphere. This is being done while the ball is still wet. After drying, the leather shrank and the feathers expanded creating a hardened ball. But because these kinds of golf balls are specially handcrafted, they usually cost higher than the clubs. In doing so, only a few privileged people could afford to play golf during those times.Next, came the Guttie golf ball. This prehistoric kind of golf ball was made from the rubber like sap of the Gutta tree that can be found in the tropics. Normally, these Guttie balls can be easily shaped into a sphere when hot and eventually used as a golf ball. With its rubber nature, guttie balls can be cheaply reproduced and can be easily repaired by reheating and reshaping. However, between the two earliest forms of golf balls, the feather golf ball was said to travel farther than the gutties. This is due to the smooth surface of the gutties that limits the capacity of the golf ball to cover more distance. With this new scientific analysis, the developers of golf ball finally came up with balls with the "dimples" that are predominant in modern golf balls nowadays.Dimples are crafted into golf balls so as to reduce the aerodynamic drag, which will be acting on the ball if it were totally smooth. This is because smooth balls, when sailing through the air, leave a huge pocket of low-pressure air in its stir therefore creating a drag. With the application of drag, the ball slows down.Hence, by having dimples on golf balls, the pressure differential goes down and the drag force is reduced. These dimples create turbulence in the air surrounding the golf ball. This, in turn, forces the air to clasp the golf ball more closely. By doing so, the air trails the warp created by the ball towards the back instead of flowing past it. This results to a smaller wake and lesser drag.Dimples also help players to put backspin on a shot making the golf ball break off on the putting green. The idea of putting dimples on golf balls can be traced back during the gutta percha phase. Coburn Haskell introduced the one-piece rubber cored ball encased in a gutta percha sphere. It was during this time when the players observed how their shots become more and more predictable as their balls turned rough from play. When William Taylor applied the dimple pattern to a Haskell ball in 1905, golf balls finally took their modern form. From then on, dimpled golf balls were officially used in every golf tournament. In 1921, the golf balls took its form with standard size and weight.Today, there is an abundant selection of golf balls to fit different golf game and condition. There are golf balls that offer control, while some offer distance. In whatever ways golf balls vary, only one thing is common and known. Golf balls are not just elements of the sports arena; they are more than ever paradigm of a concept in physics.

If You Want To Improve Your Golf Game It All Begins With Your Swing

By: Gregg Hall
While every putter must know how to putt, he has to get the ball off the tee with a strong swing before he does anything else. With practice and concentration, any golfer can learn to perfect his swing. All swings have a few common elements that make up the fundamentals of golf. The GripWhen gripping a club, circle your left hand around the club so you have a V between the thumb and index finger. Stretch the tension from finger to the shoulder. Overlap your right hand over the left thumb and vice versa. Make your V shape create a line that leads to the chin. Apply light pressure to both hands. PostureA solid stand and good posture help create a great swing. With feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent, and rear slightly pushed out, keep your chin up and your back straight. Keep your eyes on the ball. Align yourself so that the ball rests in front of your left heel. AlignmentFind the right position upon initiating the swing. Keep your feet far enough apart to maintain balance, at about shoulder width. Lower your right shoulder a little below your left one, and angle your upper body forward at the hips, keeping your back straight. Keep your chin up and knees slightly bent. Maintain your shoulder position as you take your club back after the swing. Body ArchMaintain a solid posture for a good swing: keep your body arched from the head of your golf club through your shoulder at eye level and beyond.FlexibilityKeep your arms fully extended, thus creating more power in your swing. Increased distance from your chest to hand will create a faster swing. BalanceMaintain your balance to create a strong follow through. You should keep your body weight centered by balancing on your legs. With proper posture, you should be able to maintain your balance. The SwingFocus on rhythm Instead of swinging fast, swing strong by focusing on your downswing. Keep your club low to the ground on the back swing, focusing on the arms and not the hands. As your club starts back, your left should and hips should turn naturally to allow weight to transfer to your right side. As your continues its ascent, continue to turn your shoulders and allow your right elbow to bend at a ninety-degree angle at the top of your backswing. Aim to return your clubhead to the ball with maximum controllable speed. Push your whole club back and down. As your arm move down, you should feel your right arm straighten back and down with the weight of the club in your right hand. Finish strong with a solid follow through. The weight you initially transferred to the right side must now move to your left side. You should finish with your right knee facing the target, with your right foot up so all spikes are visible and your hands close to your left ear. A great swing takes skill, but anyone can achieve with a sufficient amount of practice.

Some Golf Gift Ideas For The Golfer On Your Gift List

By: Gregg Hall
Birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries bring dreams of beautiful gifts to the minds of some and feelings of dream to the hearts of others. Golf enthusiasts can be some of the easiest people to please if you know what to look for when considering their favorite activity. Sportsmen share an energetic spirit and positive fanaticism of golf. They love to remember great games they had, thus a gift that triggers a great memory for them will put you at the top of their favorite people list. Consider the personalized gift of a scrap book to help your golfer remember his best times on the green. Research your subject to find out which pro your golf enthusiast emulates. Then find the souvenir that will really make him smile like a club with Tiger Woods' signature or a Ben Hogan shirt. Sports and souvenir shops also offer stuffed toys and other unique gifts for the hard-to-shop-for golfer, so you don't need to worry about finding something not to suit your loved one's taste. Image matters to golfers, so he'll genuinely appreciate the right accessory. Consider protecting your special someone's eyesight and game with a great visor or pair of sunglasses. However, as you shop for the perfect pair of shades, stay away from those with a concaving effect. These will alter eyesight, an imperative sense on the green. Your sports fanatic will also appreciate comfy and stylish golf shirts, pants, and socks. Practice caution and observation, however, when searching out an apparel gift. Know your golfer's color, size, and style preference. Beyond the regular apparel you might want to consider watches and shoes as well. Stay away from purchasing golf equipment. Golfers have specific preferences on clubs, and they most likely already have the clubs they prefer. Thus you will just waste money by purchasing something you think might help your golfer without knowing specifically what he prefers. Golf Balls: What Type Should You Buy?

By: Matthew Hick
Have you ever walked into your local golf store or a nearby Dick's Sporting Goods store to get some golf balls? It may seem like the easiest task at hand as you walk from your car, through the parking lot, and into the store. You're just there to pick up some good old golf balls for your game later that evening. You pass a nice looking golf shirt, some golf shoes, and then you see them. You stop dead in your tracks. The shelves... upon shelves... upon shelves of golf balls seem to stare blankly at you. And they all seem to be screaming at the same time: Long distance, More spin, More control, Hi-spin, Raw distance fusion. Raw distance fusion? you ask yourself.Ok, time out! It's time to take a deep breath and relax. No, the golf ball world does not want to make you have a panic attack before you even get out on the green! But, it is no question that buying golf balls, even for some experienced golfers, can be a tad bit confusing. Let's take a closer look at the basic types of golf balls on the market today and perhaps this will help you in your next endeavor into the store!Basic facts about golf balls:To begin, there are some specifications that all golf balls must meet in order to be sold for golfers. First, all regulated golf balls have a size limit. This limit is 1.68 inches in diameter. And, a golf ball cannot be any heavier than 1.62 ounces. The only other specification that must be met on a golf ball is it's shape - yes, it must be round! No square, rectangle, or triangle balls allowed. The importance of compression:Quite simply put, the compression of a golf ball will give you a certain feeling from having hit the ball - it will either feel solid or not solid enough. The higher the compression of a golf ball, the more solid it will feel to you. Typically, golf ball compressions are rated between 80 and 100 - 90 being the most common. What type of golf ball compression you favor is completely up to you. In the game of golf, no two players are the same. Ball coverings:Golf ball coverings come in two main types of materials: Surlyn and Balata. First, a golf ball covered with the material Surlyn cannot be scuffed or broken. This is because Surlyn is a manmade substance that withstands a great amount of pressure and outside damage. A golf ball made of Surlyn also has a solid core on the inside The positive aspects of getting golf balls covered with Surlyn are that they are fairly inexpensive, have a long life, and can travel far distances. On the other hand, these balls get less spin than others. The other type of golf ball to look at is one that is made with Balata. Balata balls have liquid-filled cores. These cores are then bound together with rubber and covered with Balata - which is a fairly soft covering. Although a Balata covering can be nicked and cut up, it allows the ball to have more spin and backspin than otherwise usual. For you, this means more control over your golf ball. Despite its higher cost and shorter life on the golf course, it is a good choice of balls for experienced players. Once you find the golf ball that is right for you, the only thing you will have to get nervous about is whether or not you should buy one case or two of them!

Golf Swing Setup... Just Like The Pro's

By: Jonathan Barrett
This is the Best Golf Swing Setup Routine I've Ever Come Across...OK, here we go. This is something that I was shown by a Pro Golfer. I have never seen this before in any golfing material before or since. It is a setup routine to ensure that you are exactly the right distance from the ball every time with every club. I have checked this golf swing setup routine with the setup of some of the world's top Pro golfers and it is bang on. I really benefited from this setup. So how does it work I can hear you asking. Well it's rather simple, which is why I'm surprised I've not seen it before. How do you currently know how far you should be from the ball? This routine is simple and accurate. Here we go. It is all related to the length of the club you are about to hit the ball with. The main benefit from this setup is that by setting yourself up right to the ball it will give you plenty of room to work in between you and the ball, rather than getting all cramped up at impact. Setup Instructions...Choose the club you plan to hit the ball with. The following instructions are for a 9 iron through to your long irons:1. Lay the club down on the ground pointing away from your body, that's from your body when setup alongside the ball in your normal stance, towards the ball. 2. Now move the club head (which should be closest to the ball, away from your body) so that it is on the other side of the ball. So as you look down to the ground you will see the club shaft running away from you with the club head wrapped around the other side of the ball. 3. Now move yourself to the ball and put one finger width space between the ball and the clubhead as it is laid on the ground. 4. Now move back to the butt end of the shaft. 5. Now take up your stance but this time line up the back of your heels with the butt end of the club. This now sets your feet the correct distance from the ball. 5. All you need to do now is keep you feet on the line you've set them and pick your club up and address the ball. 6. WARNING: This setup gives you the correct amount of bend at your knees. To get yourself balanced you will need to push you bum out behind you, remembering to keep your back straight and bend more over the ball. 7. WARNING: The first time you do this you may think you are way too far away from the ball. I have checked this setup and it is absolutely correct and matches the setup of the worlds top pro's. 8. WARNING: You may find it easier to change your setup in small steps rather than go straight to this setup - if the ball feels way too far away from you then gradually increase the distance over a few rounds. You need to practice the setup as described above until you can do it without laying you club down on the floor. Soon you will be doing this without even thinking about it.If you're not certain that this is correct then go to Golf Digest and take a look at the swing sequences and check it out - make sure the golfer you're looking at has an iron in their hands. The Other ClubsThe only differences for the other clubs is that for clubs shorter than your 9 iron you add another finger for each club, two finger space for a pitching wedge etc. For the driver, instead of the end of the butt of the shaft being along the back line of your heels the end of the butt should be around the middle of your foot.Give it a try, you might be nicely surprised at how much easier it is to hit the ball with this extra room to work in.

What You Should Know When Buying Golf Equipment

By: Ewen Chia
Buying the right gear to play the game of golf is not that hard. All it takes is for you to look at the right place and receiving worth for one's money. You can check the community directory or ask somebody for directions on how to get there. Here are some tips buying golf equipment: 1. Before you start buying, it is best to first determine your budget for it. There are many brands offered and this is sometimes the determining reason which will make you do well in the green or not.2. How regularly will you use it is another reason. It doesn't take that much to upkeep golf equipment because all you need is a roller brush or a small towel. If you are just starting out in golf, the brand does not matter but it will later on as you decide to invest more in the sport.3. Most golf shops advertise brand new and used gear. If you can't afford a new set, it is advisable to first begin with a used one then save up for a brand new one later on.4. Some people can't tell the difference how one brand is better than another. If you have that issue, you should ask the sales person for help because that individual is more familiar with what is available in the store. 5. Buying golf equipment can be challenging. By looking in more than one store, you can possibly get a good deal or find an item that is cheaper in one store than the one down the street. 6. Golf specialty stores are just one place where one can get good merchandise. The other is via the internet. There are many websites that also specialize in selling brand new and second hand equipment. You can order it online and have it delivered to your doorstep. Another way of doing, which may not carry a whole line of things for golf, are auction sites where you can bid on a certain item and if you are the winning bidder, you will also be able to get it in a few days.7. Some experts who have played golf for some time prefer to sell the old equipment to somebody which saves money in paying for a new one. If you ask around, there is a prospect that you will be fortunate to get it at a good price which is a far better deal then getting it from any golf store.

How To Choose The Right Golf Clubs

By: Ewen Chia
Golf is a game which depends on the right kind of golf clubs, apart from the skill of course. With so many clubs out there, deciding which one to get can be a tough choice. Here are some tips on how to narrow down the range. - Determine your levels for playing Some play for the weekend activity and there are others who'd like to move up in the ranks. If the occasional pastime is your stride, a low- to mid-performance club can work for you, while a high-performance club is suitable to those who'll play more often.- Set a budgetThe notion that the more costly the club, the better it is purely doesn't hold water anymore. If you do enough research and read reviews you'll find a club that matches your degree of interest. Don't be fearful to check out used clubs as they can give you the best odds of getting the club you want at a good value. Now that you know your interest level and have established a budget, here's a concise run-through of kinds of golf clubs and what each one does.WoodsA standard golfer's bag will have a driver (called 1-wood) and a couple of fairway woods (3- and/or 5-wood). A driver is the longest club (typically 45 inches) making it the toughest to handle during a swing. IronsIrons feature thin clubheads with grooves on it. Experienced players opt for a blade style iron while beginners get a cavity-back style. A blade-style has a clubhead with a full back, while a cavity back's clubhead is hollow. It is hollowed out to make a perimeter weighting effect helpful for less-experienced golfers. Irons are categorized as long (1, 2, 3,4), mid- (5,6,7) and short (8,9). Short irons are the easiest to hit while the long ones are the hardest. The shorter the iron, the more loft there is and for beginners, the more loft, the better. PuttersPutters are the clubs most regularly used in the game and come in clubhead styles of blade, heel-toe and mallet. Lengths come in belly putters, standard and broomstick (long) putters. Which selection to get is an individual pick.Utility clubs/hybridsThe clubs combine features of woods and irons and are best for beginners who may not want to buy too many clubs straight out. Lastly as a final word before bringing them out of the golf shop, most new clubs fit individuals at the typical height of 5'10" for men and 5'5" for women. If you are significantly shorter or taller than these numbers, you should get your club fitted to your height. Begin with these considerations to develop on your study when choosing your golf clubs. The game becomes that much more fun with the little endeavor you make now.

How To Hit The Dreaded Buried Bunker Shot

By: Don Smith
Having your golf ball buried (fried egg) in the sand trap doesn't happen very often, but when it does it can be daunting golf shot to golfers of any level. Here are a few simple tips to help you pull this golf shot off.The first thing you should remember is to not take a big swing and follow through. I know this might sound a little strange, but let me explain why. The idea is to pick your sand wedge up quickly, swing down steep with your golf club and have it stick into the sand. The force of the golf club coming down will cause the golf ball to pop out, but it will have very little spin if any. You'll have a much better chance of getting your golf ball out of the bunker than if you tried to blast it out. This swing works because it allows for the golf club to get underneath the ball. When the golf ball is resting below the surface of the sand you need to compensate to get underneath it. The short, steep, attacking type of swing works best. Here are the 3 swing thoughts to remember when confronted with a buried lie from a greenside bunker:1. Set up with a much squarer stance than you would with a regular sand shot.2. Also square the clubface more, which will allow the leading edge of the golf club to enter the sand first.3. Pick a spot about 1-3 inches behind the golf ball. Pick up your sand wedge quickly and steep on your backswing, and then swing down with same steep angle of attack with no follow through. Your golf club should remain stuck in the ground. If you make the correct swing you won't be able to follow through because of the steep angle of attack, which will be a sign that you made the correct swing adjustment to hit this golf shot.Like I said in the beginning you won't be faced with this golf shot very often, but it's worth practicing it a couple times so you know what the swing feels like. After a few practice shots you'll see that this golf swing isn't that difficult to make. Put this swing into your bag of golf shots and it could save you a stroke or two. I know it has saved me a few times on the golf course!

The style of making the sticks is becoming sophisticated. Variety in color, design and application is seen in the sticks and maintains the crucial triangular relation between arms and grip. This takes the wrists out of the stroke, and promotes the coveted pendulum swing. The main feature of these putters may include the alignment system. As the golfer stands over the putter, he or she must link the lines to create a perfect circle, which when lined up gives proper lob, lie, hand position and face angles. Each putter comes with a free Bickler. The two together promises to be a potent aid for those who grapple with putting strokes.Nike recently entered the market with a new line designed for the "better player". These were to be used and endorsed by Tiger Woods, although there's no word on how they're working out yet.Swing aidsGolf Swing aids training tools encourage a specific wrist action, which works in an up and down manner, not from side to side. Swing aids help to maintain a square club face during the swing and to maximize power that is developed from the hand and wrist action. By using a swing aid it will help you to get a feel for the correct swing path and swing plane. Many of these can be used both in hitting balls and practice swings. Many Golf putting training aids come with a lot of equipment, such as a putting cup wedge, putting cup, putting arc, putting mat, variety of putting greens and more. The Electric Golf Trolley

By: www.Golf-Aid.com
Of the golfing community more than fifteen percent experience problems with their backs, knees and hips. This number is on the rise as Baby Boomers reach their golden years.Research and development of golf playing aids continues to offer improvements in assistive golf technology to satisfy the needs of the growing senior golf population. Of the many assistive devices available to people with disabilities, the electric golf caddy or trolley is a favorite among both disabled and able-bodied players.Even though the multiple health benefits of playing golf are well known, the four or five hours it takes to play a round of golf is not easy for everyone.Even those who are able to make the walk with relative ease would rather focus their attention on their game than struggle with a 30 to 40 pound bag. This is where the many advantages of an electric golf cart or trolley make themselves apparent.Compared to other options, the electric golf caddy proves itself to be the ideal means of getting around the course.First there is the walking option which is not the primary choice for someone with back, knee or hip problems. The process of lugging the bag, setting it down, picking it up, and walking with it from hole to hole is hard on the back and joints even for one who has no disability at all.Our golf caddy which has two models, in comparison makes carrying of your golf bag effortless. One model is remote control and the other is manual but both models feature high tech drive mechanisms and braking systems that provide effortless transporting of golf gear. They let you keep your attention where it belongs on your game.In fact, research indicates that this enhanced focus actually improves a golfers handicap.Second is the option of a ride on golf cart is limited to where they can travel especially on courses where the carts are restricted to the paved pathways. These golf carts are also very damaging ecologically to the course.Golf carts you ride on do not provide any health benefits in comparison to walking. In comparison, the electric golf cart can go anywhere you do, and their light weight has no more negative impact on the course than that of a walker. This enhanced mobility can also speed up play, since you can go directly from Point A to Point B without being restricted to a cart path.Third, theres the option of using a traditional push or pull cart. Even though this choice does provide cardivascular benefits it lacks the convenience and remote control features of an electric caddy. The push or pull cart is no bargain in the effort and strain department, either, especially when you are traveling with it over hilly terrain.Whether you choose the remote control or manual electric golf caddy, both versions have benefits and features that make your choice a winning one. Both of our electric golf caddies are constructed with sturdy, high tech, lightweight frames with strong bag support components. Both models come in silver, black or stainless steel finishes. Both models are easy to set up. The manual control electric golf caddy has a one step setup and fold design with a height adjustable locking mechanism. The remote control electric golf caddy features an easy two-step, one-click setup design. Once the game day is over, preparing the electric caddy for transport is as easy as the setup. The easy fold design collpases the caddy into one piece to fit into any vehicle trunk with no need to remove the battery. Each of our electric golf caddies is powered by a long-lasting battery that is sufficient for a minimum of 27 holes on a full charge. (We include the battery and charger with your purchase.)In the unlikely event that your battery ever did run out of juice, both models can be easily pushed without power.Battery charge indicators are featured on both models. The manual electric golf caddy has a powerful noiseless motor, while the remote controlled electric golf caddy has two powerful independently controlled noisless motors. The remote controlled electric golf caddy has two powerful independantly controlled noiseless motors, while the manual one has a powerful noisless motor. Both models can be used with ease with a seamless rheostat speed control with torque wheel control. They also come with a cruise control button; if you press it after you stop, the caddy automatically goes back to your regular speed. The remote control electric golf caddy has a wide-range remote control, features directional controls (forward, sideways, and reverse), a timed advance function, and emergency and soft coasting stop functions. It gives you full control up to 120 yards, and stops automatically if it does not receive commands from the remote control within 25 seconds. Our electric caddies will never leave you high and dry on the course. Read our testimonials on our site. Both models have durable wheels for great traction and maneuverability. Both models come with a score card holder and other accessories are available.Assistive golf aids like the electric golf caddy restore recreation and ability to the growing number of seniors and disabled golfers who might not otherwise be able to play the game due to physical discomfort and mobility challenges. For convenience, comfort, and overall value, the electric golf caddy is an assistive playing aid thats hard to beat.

The Importance Of Weight Training In Your Golf Game

By: Joe Stewart
Though not many golfers may agree with it, the truth lies in the fact that golf weight training routines play a very important role in improving the game of a golfer. Golf, indeed is a very sophisticated game that people of all ages and gender like to take up as a hobby but little do they realize the importance of fitness and weight training programs that can bring about a radical improvement in their game. These fitness programs may consist of a package including weight training sessions, bending and stretching exercises and so on.The Importance of Golf Weight TrainingSo lets understand in depth the reason why we need to be fit for a game like golf where the body appears to move in a very restricted manner. Yes, this is exactly what an amateur or an onlooker may feel while watching a game of golf. But in all practicality things are quite different from what they seem to be. In fact it is quite surprising to note that right from the feet to the hips a golfer has to be extremely flexible, because this is what the game demands. In fact, we can’t attach any lesser importance to the arms, shoulders, and neck regions all of which contribute to a golf swing. Therefore we cannot negate the importance of fitness and exercise, even in a sport like golf. But now the question arises as to why we should get into weight training routines. Golf certainly does not involve struggling with heavy weights so where does the need come for bodybuilding? Moreover the presence of muscles may cause inflexibility in ones body. However, experts and professional trainers view golf weight training in an entirely different light. According to them weight training does not necessarily mean working on the muscles. It can also be done to improve the overall strength and endurance of one’s body. So trainers have a different term that they have assigned for weight training routines and this is known as “ golf strength building”.Most golf exercise programs include only those weight training programs that will enhance the flexibility and performance of a golfers body. In fact it is of utmost importance for a golfer to keep his muscles toned and conditioned. It is the flabby and weak muscles that come in between a golfer and his sport. Regular exercises and weight training on the other hand always ensure that a golfer has a body that will match up to the expectations of his sport.ConclusionIt is therefore very important for a golfer to choose a fitness program very carefully. The right exercises can really leave a positive impact on his game and help him excel in it. So if your dumbbells are still rusting somewhere around your house, pick them up and get into a regular exercise routine. For all those golfers who would like to pursue golf with the true zeal and spirit, getting enrolled in golf weight training routines is probably one of the sure shot ways of gaining a distinct advantage in this game.

Golf "Specific" Exercises - Are They Over Hyped Or Do They "REALLY" Help?

By: Joe Stewart
Fitness plays an extremely important role in any sport as it not only helps you improve your game, but also reduces your risk to injury. If you really want to achieve your golf performance goals, you will need to pay special attention to fitness, but not just any type of fitness training will do for golfer's. I'll explain in a moment. There are many easy to follow programs, complete with easy to follow illustrations on Golf Fitness. Why Is Fitness So Important? The game of golf requires you to walk long distances and applies special stress on your back. If you don’t follow the correct fitness routine that employs exercises like "golf specific" stretching, you will definitely suffer. Simple stretching exercises can easily become a part of your warm up routine on the golf course and will help you add a few more yards to your drive. It is common sense that if you strengthen your muscles, you are going to be able to play better. The key to success lies in performing these stretches daily. Although it requires hard work to add a regularly scheduled golf workout to your day, the outcome is well worth it. The right fitness regimen will improve your game quickly and dramatically. Golf fitness is not just about improving your posture or being able to swing better. It is about keeping yourself healthy when you are on the course.Small changes can improve your performance dramatically. You might consider carrying a double strapped golf bag, rather than a single strap one when you are walking. This will distribute the weight on your shoulders and back and help reduce the chances of a backache. Even the clothes you wear to your game will play an extremely important role in keeping you fit to play the game!Specific "Golf" Stretching Will Help YouThe game requires a lot of strength and muscle control as hitting the golf ball cosistantly at a high rate of speed while playing a round of golf can be physically demanding. The important thing about golf fitness is that, unlike other sports, playing golf does not necessarily improve your "golf specific" fitness. You need to follow an exercise routine that will help you strengthen your "golf specific" muscles. This will help you increase your club head speed and driving distance.A variety of golf fitness products are available in the market these days. Most of these products come with a manual that instructs you to perform certain golf specific exercises. Muscles need to be kept at their optimum length. Stretching is important as it relaxes the muscles and forces them out of contraction. When the muscles are in a constant state of contraction, you need more energy to perform a task. Stretching is particularly important for your back.Since golf puts a lot of strain on your back, including stretching exercises in your fitness routine is mandatory. It's very important to do an equal amount of stretching AFTER you exercise. This enables you to enhance your flexibility as your muscles will stretch more easily once they're "warmed up" and it will also help you to prevent soreness, especially when first starting out.

Fitness Tips That Can Help Your Golf Game

By: Joe Stewart
If you're really looking for more consistancy in your golf swing then stretching exercises that are "golf specific" will help your shoulders a lot! These types of fitness stretch exercises are designed to specifically help your back and rotator cuff area.By stretching these muscle groups on a regular basis you can make big strides in improving your swing. Some of the most common injuries to golfer's occur because of a lack of flexibility in their back. This usually affects the area of the rotator cuff. Injury prevention is another reason why it's so important for you to start some type of golf specific exercise routine right away, if you don't already have one.Have you ever stood in front of a full length mirror and watched yourself going through your swing motion? It may sound a bit silly, but by going through the motion slowly you can actually feel the muscles that you use while performing this movement. When you get to the top of your rotation try going just a bit further and holding it for ten seconds. Don't hurt yourself or bounce, but hold it just enough to feel a slight discomfort.Once you've done this on one side, switch sides and do it again. Do both sides twice the same way. You should notice that it's a little bit easier the second time. You should also be able to go a little bit further now that you've warmed up your muscles a bit.Next, try stretching directly overhead. Get all the way up on the tips of your toes and reach for the sky, holding it for a few seconds. When you come down go ahead and spread your feet more than shoulder width apart and simply bend over and "hang there" loosely.Do NOT bounce as you could possibly tear a muscle. All that you want to do is hang there and breath deeply while counting to ten by one thousands. One thousand one, one thousand two, ect. Do this a second time. Reach for the sky as far as you can, hold it for a few seconds and relax.Spread your feet again and bend over forward and hang there while counting. You can go farther the second time, can't you? Now try it with your feet together. This is a bit more rough if you're just starting out, but remember not to bounce, but to just hang there, count to ten and repeat. If you continue this regularly there will come a point in the near future where you'll be able to easily touch your toes without bending your knees. Can you imagine the flexibilty that you'll have when you've achieved this?Once you've done this you'll feel like a million bucks. I've had some days where my spine will just pop right back into place. It's simply a wonderful feeling and will help your golf swing a lot. If you do this on a regular basis, you'll soon see a marked improvement in your game. There are many different exercises that are specifically for golf fitness that you might find helpful. I recommend that you either invest in a good book on golf fitness, get with a fitness coach that specializes in golf fitness or, if you have the time and the money, do both.

Golf Equipment: How to choose the right Iron Set?

By: Deam Rass
Today’s golf equipment manufactures make several different lines of golf clubs to fit many golfers & budgets. In order to find the best fit for your game is research. Many factors that go into this decision is Skill level, Price & Brand appeal. Start with the skill level, if you are a scratch golfer to a 5 handicap, than the type of irons you would be looking for is a blade style that is made out of forged steel. Forged golf clubs offer a softer metal than a stainless steel, and it allows you to have more feel for the ball. Blade style irons also allow you to shape your shots with greater ease than a more forgiving golf club. Some great examples of this type of club are the Titleist 695 irons, or the Callaway X Tour irons. The Cost of these ranges from $800-$900 depending on options. 6-12 handicap players should be looking for a club that offers some forgiveness and also the ability to work the ball, but still have some margin for error. Some great examples of these irons are the NIKE CCI irons and the Callaway X-20 Irons. These clubs range from $650-$750 12-18 handicap players should be looking into a game improvement style golf club. A game improvement club is designed with large perimeter weighting, and larger sole. The purpose of perimeter weighting is to push the weight of the club around the club face, to allow the center of the face to be as forgiving as possible i.e. Large Sweet Spot. Clubs that would fit that description are the Cobra FP Irons, Callaway Big Bertha Irons & Tour Edge QL Irons. Price range $300-$550 18+ handicap players should be looking for an ultra game improvement club. These clubs vary in terms of materials and price. The concept of these irons sets is to make golf easy and enjoyable for the average golfer. The manufacturers do this in many ways. First of, almost all of the clubs in this category have a very wide sole, which makes it easier to get the ball airborne? Other features this category offers is the size of the head. The head size is much larger than a blade style to create a larger sweet spot. A good theory is that the larger the head the larger the sweet spot. This category also offers other materials such as Titanium and Polymers to increase strength without increasing the overall weight of the club. Great examples of these clubs are the Callaway Fusion Wide Sole, Cobra S9 & Nike Ignite Irons. They range from $400-$1,000 per set. Other points to consider are golf shaft options. You have 2 options to choose from Steel or Graphite. Steel shafts are less expensive than graphite. They also offer more control for you shots, and give more ability to work the ball than a graphite shafts. Steel shafts are also known to be a stiffer shaft and offer a strong swinger a better platform to perform. Graphite shafts are more expensive than steel, but are much lighter. The difference in weight is almost half. A light weight shaft is around 55 grams opposed to 120 grams in Steel. The benefit of graphite shafts are for those golfers who have smooth tempo swings. You would let the club do the work for you when using a graphite shafted club. Graphite shafts are very popular with ladies and seniors due to there slower swing speeds. Last but not least, hit the golf clubs to be sure which is best for your game. Manufactures have Demo Days at most all local golf course or golf shows so the end consumer can try the latest golf equipment products available.

The golf courses are magnificent but they are all different lacking even 2 being alike. This is beautiful incredible because every other globe sport has a prescribed domain of play. (There are some sports that may not monitor an careful dimension of live domain but might have to colonize for what is untaken such as covered polo.) When you think that no 2 courses are alike and there is an estimated 32,000 courses throughout the world, this is just incredible. Of course this is what makes golf what it is. You can move all around the country or the world and never play the same game double. What about the courses themselves?- Are you looking for a course near your home?- Are you looking for a course near a leave you plan to take?- Are you looking for a golf leave and don't know where to gain?We hope that you have gained a clear grasp of the subject matter presented in the first half of this article. You can accept up the hottest duplicate of one of the Golf magazines and read up on the hottest "best" courses as graded by that municipalation. I told the caller, that Magazine "A" highlighted whoever rewarded them the fee. End of Conversation. You want my guidance on choosing the right course for your leave? If you can stop the elevated green fees, read the magazines and when you get there for your leave, there will be the duplicate of the critique under the wineglass and on top of the wineglass will be the "New and superior" green fees. That's ok if you plan to do nothing moreover but golf.If you go on leave and plan to take in other attractions, find the attractions that you want to see to resolve where you want to go. Then look for your golf courses and resorts. save you live right there, you will forever find courses that you have not played. Even if you leave there every year, by the time you get back, there will doubtless be another golf course built anyhow! (Just a trait notice. Can you suppose any municipalation having enough body time to play about 8,000 courses, in the United States solitary and grade them for their top 100 accepts?)If you are looking for courses right where you live, you can take the time and vacation the course and see it for manually. If you are forecast a leave, this may be a different buzz. You can do a lot of study on the Internet.
