Enjoying Competition Sport Fishing

What is sport fishing? You could be competing for a trophy or you may be looking to catch the largest fish from all of your friends. Competitions are by far the most popular reason for sport fishing though. You can go both still fishing or fly fishing. You’ll have a specific time frame and depending on the weight and the species that you catch, you may just bring home the big one. The type of line that you use is also important here. The heavier the line, the fewer points you’ll get.

There are different types of sport fishing. Bass fishing, shore fishing, fly fishing, big game fishing, troll fishing and ice fishing are some of them. The competitions are based on the group of anglers, the conditions and the type of fish they are after. There is a wide range of options out there. You’ll be able to catch fish like marlin, walleye, salmon, shark, tuna and a wide range of others.

Equipment You’ll Need

The equipment you need depends on what type of fish you are after as well as what type of fishing you are doing. You’ll need to have the basics of rod, reel and tackle. Some will allow you to bring along your fish finder while others will not. Make sure you take a moment to see what the rules say.

For bait, you’ll need to take with you’re the bait that works for the fish you are after of course. You can go from simple things such as lures and spinners to wet and dry flies, shrimp or live fish and other live bait.

Understanding Fishing Line

The type of line used in these tournaments is often lighter than the force that the fish applies to it. Why? It's more of a challenge of course! You should purchase a high tech drag mechanism on your reel to compensate for this. This will keep the right tension in the line when the fish takes off. Only when the fish gets tired of running will you have the ability to land him. It can be quite challenging but that is what makes it so fun, right!

How To Fight The Big Guy

There are several methods that are used to fight hooked fish. One is the use of a game chair. The fisherman sits there and places the butt of his rod in a gimbaled mount. You’ll need quite a long rod for this and it needs to be bent correctly to fit properly. This is not an easy task and you’ll need experience to get it right. Or, you can go with the stand up method. You’ll use a harness this time around. You’ll need to eat your Wheaties for this one though.

Ready to give it a try? You may find yourself shocked by the price of it all. It can cost you up to $25,000 if you purchase everything. You can take advantage of charter services though which will cut down on the supplies (especially your boat!) and you’ll get everything that you need. Take the time to learn with a professional to help you to make the most out of every tournament you enter. Winning the prize can help to lower these costs and make it all well worth it!

Base Jumping: A Truly Extreme Sport

BASE jumping is not a sport for the faint of heart. Athletes who practice this extreme sport climb to the top of tall buildings, canyons, or other structures; jump off; enjoy a period of free falling; then open a parachute and coast to the ground.

The acronym BASE stands for building, antennae, span, and earth; which make up a comprehensive list of what kinds of fixed objects BASE jumpers plummet from. Span is a term that includes all sorts of bridges, or any other structures that span over a valley or chasm. Earth means anything from cliffs to mountains to canyons.

BASE jumping is very dangerous for a variety of reasons, but the most common causes of injury and death have to do with failure to maintain a clear area around the athlete during the jump and/or the landing. If the wind is against them or if they make a mistake during the launch of their jump, athletes sometimes collide with the object that they have jumped from. Because BASE jumping areas are usually not designated for this guerilla-style sport, the makeshift landing targets that jumpers aim for are rarely large enough to allow for a safe jump. As a result many BASE enthusiasts meet with serious and sometimes fatal injuries because they haven’t been able to steer themselves to the landing area in time.

Many people compare BASE jumping to bungee jumping without a bungee cord, but it is actually much closer to skydiving without an airplane. Jumpers practice many of the same techniques that divers use to maintain stability and altitude awareness while they are in the air. Before becoming a BASE jumper, an athlete must complete a full course of skydiver training. Once they have their full skydiving certification, the next step for anyone interested in BASE is to find a mentor in the jumping community who can teach them how to take on these ambitious freefalls. Only experienced divers can even contemplate a BASE jump because this kind of unguided and somewhat unpredictable activity requires razor sharp awareness of altitude, along with stellar free fall technique.

BASE jumping is one of the most dangerous sports practiced today. Every year, BASE jumping leads to several fatalities, and most major BASE societies and clubs have seen at least one member perish in pursuit of the sport that he or she loved. Because no two jumps are alike, it is very difficult to predict what will happen once you start plummeting towards the ground. This means that to survive a BASE jump you need to have a very level head, an ability to react to surprises without panicking, and lightning speed reflexes that will allow you to make instantaneous adjustments in your position or your trajectory. However, no amount of experience can guarantee that you will complete your jump without mishap, so even very accomplished jumpers are taking serious risks every time they prepare to hurl themselves off of a building, antennae, span, or natural cliff.

Sailing: An Ideal Sport For Families

For many years, the stereotype persisted that sailing was primarily the province of young, hearty men with large, tattooed biceps. However, in recent years, the demographic of who enjoys sailing has become much more diverse.

Sailing is becoming an increasingly popular recreational activity for families, and with good reason. On a sailboat that requires someone steering at the helm, someone navigating from a map, and even someone swabbing the deck, there is a lot to be done, so there can be a role for everyone from grandpa down to the smallest tot. Sailing as a family encourages the kind of lighthearted cooperation and communication that can help any clan of kin grow closer while having a lot of fun.

Spending an afternoon on the water is a great way to get away from the stresses of everyday life. Sharing this kind of experience with your loved ones can be a great way to have some quality bonding time.

If you are thinking about exploring this great and soothing sport with your family, it is a good idea to start small. Taking on difficult waters or a very long journey when you and your kin are still getting your sea legs can lead to tension and arguments that can sour the whole experience.

To keep everybody in a good mood, make sure that you and your nearest and dearest have all of the training you need in order to have a calm and safe journey. While it may be tempting to charter a boat and head for the Bahamas right away, try starting with a course in water safety along with basic sailing terminology and techniques.

Even if your family doesn’t fall in love with this uniquely peaceful sport, you will all be likely to have a great time trying it out. The fact that learning to sail is half the fun explains why growing numbers of sailing schools offer classes that are specially designed to suit the needs of families with varying ages of children. So with a little bit of effort you are sure to discover a class that is right for you and your kids.

Private sailing classes can cost quite a bit, with beginning courses starting at one hundred dollars or more per person. But if you have the resources to splurge on these sailing classes for your family, you are all but guaranteed to have fun and learn the basics of boating.

If your recreation budget can’t accommodate this kind of one-on-one instruction, you can still manage to learn the difference between port and starboard. Many shore towns and cities offer municipally subsidized sailing lessons for residents at prices that are well below the market rate for this kind of instruction. With a little research and creative planning, you and your family should be able to hit the high seas without breaking the bank.

Soccer - The World's Most Popular Sport

Soccer is perhaps the world's favorite spectator sport, popularly known as "Football" in Britain and other European countries. This game can be as frustrating as golf, as physical as football and hockey, as erratic as baseball, and as exciting as basketball. No simple word can describe the popularity of the game, with a global television audience of 49 billion people for the 2002 World Cup alone. The game is exciting and highly addictive to watch and play.

Professional game rules require 11 players per team, 10 playing the field and one goalkeeper. With the use of a round ball, the matched is player with the two teams wearing shirts of different colors with distinctive soccer patches. The game is divided into two sets, each for 45 minutes long with the referee adding "extra time" based on time being wasted or play being stopped during the original 45 minutes. Usually, the extra time will be about one-to-three minutes.

A maximum of three substitutes may be used in any match played in an official competition organized under the auspices of the World Governing body Federation International Football Association (FIFA), the confederations or the national associations. However, in other competitions the rules must state how many substitutes may be nominated, from three up to a maximum of seven.

The decision regarding a match ending with a tie score usually depends on the actual type of game being player. There are times when the just simply ends in a tie score after the regular 90 minutes game plus any added time. On the other hand, a game ending with a tie score may lead into an overtime with an allotted time of extra play leading to penalty kicks, this usually occurs during a deciding game of a tournament. Each team is given five attempts to score on the opposing goalkeeper, the team with the highest score wins the game.

During a game, players are only allowed to wear soccer equipment and are prohibited to wear anything that may harm him as well as the other. This includes any kind of jewelry and other accessories. The basic soccer equipment of a player include a jersey or shirt with their distinctive soccer patches; shorts, if thermal under shorts are worn, it has to be the same main color as the shorts; stockings; and footwear, soccer shoes, boots, cleats.

There are instances that players may use extra equipments such as shin guards and headgears. The shin guards protect the leg below the knee and are completely covered by the stockings. These are either made of rubber, plastic, or similar substances. While the head gear are available to protect younger players when heading the ball.

For goalkeepers, they must wear a color that separates him from the other goalkeeper, players, the referee and the assistant referees.

There are four important details that one should know about the game before he is ready to play soccer. The first is that only the goalkeeper is allowed to use his hands, and this is only within the confines of the marked-off area surrounding the goal. When a player uses their hands on a ball, the opposing team gets a free kick from the spot of the violation.

The second vital information that you should remember about the game is that players are generally penalized for rough or unfair play with the use of cards. A yellow card is considered a stern warning, while a red card signifies a serious violation. Once a player receives a red card it means that he had been ejected from the game and cannot be replaced and that leaves the player's team with less players. Meanwhile receiving two yellow cards will equal to a red card, meaning the player will receive the same penalty.

Four Good Reasons To Take Up Golf As A Sport

The Exercise

Golfing is one of the best exercises that you can do. I taught this fellow about ten years ago how to play golf. He had bypass surgery done on his heart, and his doctor told him to walk for exercise. So he asked me to teach him how to golf. He was a retired carpenter. Think about it for a second. There is 1760 yards in a mile. The average golf course is anywhere from 5000 yards to 6500 yards on some of the bigger courses, depending on which tee box you are playing from. They say the shortest distance between two points is in a straight line. Can you imagine the amount of walking you can do on any given course, if you’re not a straight hitter? Some golf courses make you take a golf cart because of the steep terrain. Golfing can keep you’re heart pumping at a good pace depending on the golf terrain. So if you have not walked a country mile. Take up golf and you will have you’re fair share of walking a country mile.

The Challenge

A lot of people would ask the same question over and over again, and probably still do today. Why would anybody want to chase a little golf ball around? I use to think and ask myself the same question until that very first liftoff from a fairway lie. Oh yes! It is a great feeling when you finally lift it off the fairway and watch the ball fly towards the green and watch it land and roll towards the flagstick, especially if you are a long distance from the green and hitting the green in regulation. The feeling of success is amazing and the challenge to do it again brings you back time and time again. Once you catch that feeling, the challenge to come back and repeat the same golf shot makes you a better golfer in the long run. The challenge you have now sticks with you the more you play. The frustration of not being able to do it over and over again, and then finally once again there goes that beautiful golf shot again, makes you come back for more. Golfing has more than one challenge. The challenge within yourself to play better golf, and the challenge to play better than you’re competitor. A lot of times the challenge to beat your own game can be a real uphill battle. Go ahead and try the challenge.

The Scenery

Golf courses truly have some of the best breathtaking scenery, depending on where you reside. A lot of the golf courses have rolling fairways and trees of all colors that stretch out on both sides of the fairway, creeks that split fairways in half. Lot of golf courses have greens that are surrounded by huge trees, rock formations, and rolling mounds, and many other natural beauties. Most golf courses surround their greens with water and sand traps. The tee boxes on some courses are perched up on a hillside overlooking a valley, or body of water. Flowers and plants, and or more trees surround a lot of tee boxes. Sometimes the tee boxes and greens are in the wilderness, and or near cliffs. There is a lot of great scenery on golf courses that will want you to say. This is amazing scenery!

The Peace and Tranquility

The best part of golf is the relaxation you get out it, depending on how you’re game is going of course. Just imagine yourself nestled on a tee box first thing in the morning, and all you hear is the chirping of the birds and the sound of the trees blowing around you. Another good feeling is standing in the middle of the fairway with the sun beating down on you with a cool misty breeze coming from a nearby body of water. I like the late afternoon just before the sun goes down and the trees are swaying a bit more. Sometimes all you hear is a plane going by overhead and the crack of another golf ball going off a tee box. A lot of the golf courses take you away from the clubhouse and land you out in the country, and or fairly wooded areas where the peace and tranquility of mother nature truly makes you sit up and take hold of it’s natural beauty it has to offer.

Softball: Olympic Sport No Longer?

Softball has been around since a man named George Hancock first invented the game in 1887 in Chicago. It took over 100 years, but women’s fast pitch softball became an Olympic event in 1996.

Fast pitch is different from the looping, relaxed pitch often used in recreational softball leagues. Fast pitch players must hit a ball traveling at about 70mph. This is slower than baseball, but certainly much faster than the meandering slow pitch game. However, since the pitcher’s mound and the home plate are much closer than in baseball, (40 feet versus 60 feet) the player must react to the pitch just as quickly.

The first softball, a spur of the moment creation in that long-ago first game, was a boxing glove tied into the shape of a ball. Today’s softball is 12” in diameter, significantly bigger than the standard base ball at 9”, and all white. Softball is actually a misnomer, as the ball used in the game is no softer than a baseball, just larger.

The playing diamond is much smaller than baseball’s, with only 60 feet between bases. Baseball diamonds have 90 feet between each base. This makes for a faster, more active game than baseball, a fact that many softball enthusiasts cite as one of the reasons they enjoy the game so much.

Softball games are also two innings shorter than baseball games. However, like baseball, softball seems to inspire devoted fans and players. Many truly love their softball and pursue the game with an almost fanatic passion.

In 1996, women’s fast pitch softball made its first appearance at the Atlanta Olympic Games. The United States team took the first gold medal in the sport, beating China in the gold medal game 3-1. An orthopedic surgeon from Florida, Dot Richardson, hit the first Olympic softball home run ever to win the game for the United States, an achievement she calls her most memorable.

After being an Olympic sport for the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic games, softball was recently dropped from the 2012 London Olympics by a tied vote of 52-52 with one member abstaining. Only a simple majority of 53 votes were needed to keep softball in the Olympics, and softball supporters are trying to get the vote reconsidered.

Unfortunately, the Olympic committee doesn’t seem very interested in recasting this important ballot. Although the softball federation will certainly have something to say about this, the situation doesn’t look hopeful for girls fostering an Olympic fast pitch softball dream.

Perhaps confusion on the part of the Olympic committee caused them to drop women’s fast-pitch softball from the London games. There has been speculation that the committee members thought that women’s softball was just a female version of baseball, and not popular enough to matter. Whatever their motivations, we hope that the committee will reconsider and reinstate women’s fast pitch softball.

Cornhole Is Becoming A Popular Sport

Most people would not think of the cornhole game as an actual sport, but it is fast becoming a very popular one. It has evolved from a simple backyard game to something that has developed a strong following. Tournaments are organized in many areas of the country, and the individuals who play in them take their cornhole game seriously. They spend many hours practicing, and they are very careful to ensure that their bags and boards are all regulation. It helps them to be ready to compete when a tournament is organized in their area. In addition, there is a lot of enjoyment of the game, making the sport more popular than people would have originally expected.

Since the cornhole game is not difficult to learn to play and not physically demanding, almost any person of any age can play the game and therefore participate in the tournaments. There are tournaments for children and for adults, and men and women are often divided as well. In addition, some tournaments are organized for individuals to play, and others are organized for cornhole teams. No matter how the tournament is organized, though, there is something for everyone. The entry fees are usually very inexpensive, and the prizes are good. The tournaments can also be organized to help raise money for charities and other good causes, and some people have tournaments just because they are enjoyable and people like them.

There are areas of the country where cornhole is very popular and areas where it is not heard of nearly as often. Organizing a tournament in an area where the game is not generally played might take some doing, but there are people all over the country who do enjoy the game. It is simply a matter of finding people in one’s immediate area who enjoy the game, which can be done through advertising and asking questions of others in the community. For those who play cornhole quite often, it is already seen as a sport. Whether it will be seen that way by others, however, may still take some time. It has been suggested by some people who play cornhole as a sport that it might eventually end up on major sports networks and be televised like bowling and other activities which some people consider sports and some people do not.

If a person starts out playing cornhole at a young age, he or she may only see it as a game. Those who are a bit older often take it more seriously, because they have a better chance to network with others who also play the game, either for fun or more seriously. It is not yet possible to make a living playing cornhole as it is for some sports. However, people can win money and other prizes. Eventually, the sport may become popular enough that professional players will make their living off of the game. Until that time, however, cornhole will continue to be played in many areas of the country for both fun and profit.

Enjoying The Sport Of Climbing

Some people might not think of rock climbing as a sport until they have had a chance to climb a few mountains or spend time in the great outdoors with friends who want to teach them what they love to do the most in the time they have off from work. After people have tried rock climbing in a class, they are more than ready to take on the challenges of the great outdoors.

Some rock climbing classes teach all the basic techniques that a climber will need. Others focus on more advanced skills that are strictly reserved for the more experienced climbers in the group. Some groups are divided by age group and level of expertise. A primary concern among all trainers is to make climbing a sport that is enjoyable but safe for everyone involved. No trainer will task a climber to attempt a maneuver before they are ready for it, and many novice climbers feel elated just by climbing a few feet by themselves while others climb higher and higher.

Some of these people might even have their eye on a certain mountain in the distance that they have always wanted to climb. They might not be sure where the urge to climb rocks comes from but they do know that they do enjoy the adventure that outdoor climbing offers them and they want to experience those thrills as often as possible. They might take short trips to gyms that have rock walls in them to satisfy the urge for climbing until they can go on a rock-climbing trip with friends.

Some climbers might not want to spend a lot of money on equipment until they have practiced climbing and made the decision to make it a lifetime sport. These people have found renting equipment for short weekends is the best method they can find for testing their skills without bothering friends with borrowing what they need everytime they feel the need to head for the mountains. Climbing is an affordable sport to participate in and one that families can do together.

Most people get into rock climbing because they love being tested. Rock climbing will put people to the test by testing their endurance and their thinking abilities. People realize very quickly that they are able to think on their feet when they must negotiate a sandstone cliff that towers 100 feet above them, or when they find themselves dangling from a rope over a cavern that has a small river running through it.

These life and death situations are not for the faint at heart by any means and climbers learn to work around all obstacles to get up a mountain by sundown. For those that are unable to meet that goal, they will be challenged even more. They must learn to sleep at a vertical angle with only a rope supporting them. They might bed down on a rock crevice with a safety line attached and wake to a view of a beautiful sunrise that they have never seen before.

Climbing Is An Invigorating Sport

Climbing is a competitive sport that requires people to be in good physical and mental condition. The rugged terrains that are often encountered while out rock climbing in the wild, have the tendency to test a person's endurance levels past anything they have experienced before in their life. Rock climbing leaves people with a heightened sense of awareness and a greater appreciation for the outdoors.

They learn to enhance their self-esteem just by completing simple climbs that to a professional might seem boring, but once they have conquered that small task, they have built up confidence in their own abilities. While they are testing those abilities during the various stages of their training, they are also becoming more familiar with the equipment that could very well save their life one day. Every climber will gain experience and learn from everything they do that involves rock climbing.

People will get so stimulated by climbing rocks that they will choose to participate in rock climbing competitions to achieve more thrills. There are rock-climbing courses that are fashioned for beginners in the sport, and others will meet the needs of climbers who have perfected their talents to the intermediate and advanced levels. A person can achieve a good sense of well-being from just completing one course in the competitions and the true winners will be the ones who had the courage to sign-up in the first place. Some people learn a lot about themselves and others while participating in climbing competitions.

Climbing is a sport that grows on a person. It is certainly not something that is done without prior planning or thorough training. One of the first things that climbers will learn is that they never climb alone because beautiful scenery up in the mountains is meant to be shared by family and friends. Some families get interested in climbing when they go on whitewater rafting trips and see people climbing rocks above them along the river's path.

Some people do not have the discipline it takes to enjoy rock climbing on a continual basis. These are the people who are not wiling to listen to experienced climbers and think that they can accomplish a rock climb without having the necessary techniques under their belt to do it successfully. These people are the ones that guides have trouble managing and will not ever take up a mountain again until they display considerable progress on being able to work as a team member while climbing.

Rock climbing can be an invigorating but dangerous sport. Every member of a rock climbing group must have their wits and sensibilities about them at all times. Mistakes can cost people their lives and climbers who are not ready for various tasks should be comfortable with letting others know about it without just automatically doing it to save face in front of friends. No two climbers will see things alike and being an individual is still an important feature of climbing even if the person is in a group.

The Sport Sunglasses Triad

Sports have become serious business in the 21st century. The differences between professionals and those who play for recreation and exercise have not disappeared altogether, but amateurs seek out higher performance levels all the time. There is a new culture of fitness around us that demands that we work hard at our favorite sports even if it is not our source of income. Consequently, sport sunglasses are not limited to the world of fashion alone, although who would not like to look his or her best when competing?

You may be generally aware that the game you love and practice most needs a particular kind of specs to help you do better. But are you aware of specific product features that should figure in a purchase decision? Cut through advertising hype and get the relevant facts filtered through. Online shopping is a special challenge when you need help, because there is no salesperson or optometrist around for you to badger. Here are three easy things to guide you to buy the brand and model that will serve your purpose best:

* Materials of construction. Learn as much as you can about the modern stuff used to make frames and lenses, because you want a mix of durability and flexibility without weighing yourself down. Lightweight frames that you can hardly feel should fit snugly and give you reliable service for reasonable periods of time. This should be kept in mind as you browse through collections of sport sunglasses on a website. Similarly, opt for strong plastic lenses that offer visual qualities similar to glass but that pose low risks of shattering and damaging your eyes.

* Tints. Some of the most technically made tints may not match your dress or may even make you look a bit like an alien from another planet, but pay no attention to such superficial factors. Every tint has a unique role in cutting out glare, sharpening contrast, and enhancing your vision in tough conditions. Money spent on interchangeable lens systems will provide handsome returns if your sport involves a variety of changing light conditions.

* Fit. Now, that is a small word for a whole lot of things when it comes to the competitive world of sport sunglasses. Your temples and the bridge of your nose are the vital points to keep eyewear precisely in place as you swerve, collide, hit, and make all the other sharp movements that distinguish you as a sports person to watch. Clear vision, no matter what the circumstances, is what you want. How well do grips and pads work on the brand you want to buy? The best frames and lenses in the business are of no use if they are not precisely in place as you go through the most critical milliseconds of a sport.

Technical Gear, Inc., offers various sport sunglasses you need at http://www.technical-gear.com. The website includes sales support and popular brands, with descriptions of each pair to help you find what you want. The company also offers accessories.

What Is Sport Karate? Part 1

What is Sport Karate?
Fighting Divisions

In today’s terminology, Sport Karate (or Sport Martial Arts) is the application of competitive martial arts in a sporting environment, and has been around for a few decades.

The two main categories/divisions of competition are Fighting and Forms, with this article focusing on the Fighting category. Part 2 will focus on the Forms category.

Within those two categories, there are various areas of competition – such as weapon forms, musical forms, team forms, team fighting, continuous fighting, and many more divisions (depending what sanction an athlete competes in). Sport Martial Arts is quickly evolving as competitors continue to push the envelope of what people are physically capable of doing. This not only has increased the level of competition, but also allows martial art athletes to be more innovative in their traditional and competitive training.

Fighting

MA athletes that compete in fighting have implemented new fighting techniques and moves that were previously only seen in boxing and other arts, along with training habits of professional mainstream sports players. This has heighten the level of fighting, and made the sport more exciting to watch and be apart of.

All of the various divisions at a Sport Karate tournament are broken up into age categories and levels of martial art experience to even out the competition. Age groups vary from event-to-event, but experience is usually the same. Less then 1 year is considered a beginner, 2 – 3 years is intermediate, 3 or more years is advanced and Black Belts are segregated from all other under belts (non-black belts).

Fighting division can be pictured as tennis matches, except they are not as lengthy. Matches are usually 2 to 3 minutes long and the winner is determined by either total points scored (first one to 5) or whoever is ahead in points when time runs out. Ties are sent into sudden death overtime – first person to score, wins. Keep in mind these rules do not apply to every Sport Karate sanction.

Typical matches are single elimination with no opportunity to fight again unless a competitor makes it to the quarterfinals (the loser, will compete for 3rd and 4th place). Winners of their respected division, as in Forms, sometimes have the opportunity to compete for an Overall Grand Champion against other division winners.

Will I get hurt? Well, you are fighting another person, so chances are you’ll end up with a bruise or two at the end of a match. But Sport Martial Arts wouldn’t have gained the popularity it currently has if athletes kept on getting injured. Almost all sanctions require the athletes to wear protective gear to prevent injury and judges are always close by to monitor the match. Think of a sanction as a league, there are different types and different levels. Be sure you know what the rules of a particular sanction are before you join to ensure it is the type of competition you’re looking for.

To see part 2 of this article, go to www.experiencemartialarts.com, click on "Learn More" and look in the "Sport Martial Arts" section.

Performance And Sport Sunglasses

The recent boom and the extreme popularity obtained for outdoor sports activities like mountain biking, snowshoeing, rock climbing, skiing, kayaking, golfing and in-line skating has motivated the sun glass manufacturers to design performance-oriented sunglasses.

To meet the demands of the casual and competitive sports person, much study and growth has been done by the sun wear manufacturers as to how they could create the best sunglasses for various activities, requirements and environments. The results:lightweight, flexible and durable materials, no-slip components that do not fail in the heat of the moment, and of course lenses were introduced.

Lenses

Lenses, perhaps the main significant aspect effective for sports sun wear has optical quality and image enhancement. These lenses are now accessible in many colors such as brown, green, gray, yellow, orange, etc... that are chiefly effective in certain situations.

Polycarbonate lenses are tremendously popular for its super muscular and impact-resistant quality that particularly attracts many people involved in sports.

Polarized lenses are also in great demand as they decrease glare produced on smooth surfaces such as
water or a field of snow. Polarized lenses are highly effective sports lenses that work effectively with both the contradictory sports activities like the downhill to mogul skiing.

Glass lenses have great visual quality. Hence they are used as casual sunglasses and for golfing.
Even though glass lenses have such great visual quality they are rarely used as sports eyewear
because many people concerned in extreme sports shy away from glasses lenses for the possibility
of shattering upon impact.

What's Your Sport?

One major trend that has hit the sports eyewear arena lately is sports-specific sun wear.Frames and
lenses are now accessible that are targeted exclusively to the golfer, the cyclist, the boater, the rock climber and so on. This accessibility and specialization has fashioned great consumer interest
and hence has increased sales in sports eyewear.

If you are the Jack of all sports, there is also a selection of multipurpose sports sunglasses
available for you in the market. Changeable lens systems are also obtainable.

Another tendency in sports eyewear that has made consumers much more conscious of the brands and the products out there are the product endorsements and sponsorships by well-known professional athletes. Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers,John McEnroe of pro tennis fame, PGA golfer David Ledbetter,Missy Giove,a top mountain biker, pro surfer Laird Hamilton, and even Olympic skier Johnny Moseley all have support deals with chief sports eyewear lines.

Did You Try Archery? Is A Wonderful Sport

I believe Archery is a great sport, which has given me a great deal of gladness and happiness! I have stayed with the hobby for 20 years and do not regret a minute of it! I never awaited that it would take me Full time. Either it be hunting, competition, or merely fun, archery can be a wonderful sport or hobby. To do it properly there is no other way than to really give yourself for it, practice everyday, learn to be aware of yourself too from the inside, and be fearless to face new challenges. Archery is for all, youthful and old, males and females.

To shot the ten with your arrow, you have to certainly be informed of the proper shooting methods, but no muscles. To do it correctly every single time you are required to be mentally sure and very committed. Besides your option of bows, there are numerous things to compare in relation with arrow preference, arm guards and finger protection. At the end you need a bow with sight, a set of arrows, chest and guards, finger tab, quiver and some small accessories although don't instantly rush to a tackle dealer to expend them. So why not? First there are bow dealers who know there business and also there are dealers who don't! I suggest that you take a breathe and decide first what you are really after.

To pick up the needed gear is not a not expensive and especially no simple process, so in order to get them the right way from the very beginning I suggest that you read the link titled baying the bow initially. After you are ultimately all ready for the important acquisition, it is advisable to do at a archery coach and not in a ordinary sport gear shop. From the archery expert you have the incredible proper gear and priceless guidance with it also. A great list of archery equipment dealers you'll detect for example lets see at http://www.archerylinks.com. Which ever you choose, do plenty of shop around primarily.

Remember if you have not play archery before, you should seek a coach to show you the right way to do it. It can be tricky if you dont know how, so please dont take risks, learn the right way and avoid beginner accidents. Enjoy your sport and have a good time.

Football – Social Sport Of The Us?

Are you getting bored and yearning for some human company in your house? Well, all that you have to do is switch on the TV and invite your neighbor. Done. Just see how the atmosphere in the house is charged with electricity with all the screaming and shouting that is bound to happen! Just watching National Football League and United States Football League tackling the football is sure to raise the adrenalin.

Football is a game you can enjoy the most when you are in the company of others. It is not meant for lonely hearts. The heart throbbing of that winning goal, the nail biting dodging of the ball, the cursing and swearing that goes with the game is not for the weak hearted. If you happen to suffer from hypertension, trust me this game is not for you.

Don’t you think that it is only the guys that are going nuts over it. The pointed oval ball with large stitches along one side is the craze of America since the 60s. Even the girls are driving the nation mad with their antics. It is surprising if you consider the fact that football practice is tough and is vigorous too. No, longer are the girls demure or lady like. Those days are long gone!

It is nice to see that football is one game which can effectively wean the child away from the computer games and mindless television viewing. Children actually want to play football nowadays and the clubs at school and college provide them a platform for it. They promote the game by spreading word about its benefits on your family, friendship, fun and fitness. It relaxes the mind and releases specific hormones in your body which help you to relax after a game. The psychological effects are deep.

It is an easy and affordable game. The rewards are there, and on field relationships extend beyond the field and lifelong bonds are formed. All this can never be achieved if you remain glued to your computer games or the idiot box.

So all you video freaks. Just jump out of your chair, collect few people from the neighborhood, even your 60 + granddad will do if he can run about, and go to the neighborhood park. Just see how recharged and lively you feel after a kicking, screaming hitting and shouting session with the ball. Your mom may scream at you but don’t worry she will come around soon enough when she will see the changes in you.

It is not for nothing that the Super Bowl Sunday has become the unofficial national holiday in the USA!

Badminton – The Sport Everyone Loves

It’s fast! It’s fun! It’s so easy to learn that even five-year-olds can delight in playing it. More than just a game for families, badminton will soar you to the Olympics if you choose to perfect your skill level!

Badminton has captivated the hearts of the multi-generational family for decades, as the young toddler who hasn’t reached pre-school can play, as well as the grandfather and even the great-grandfather. Even the first-day novice can feel comfortable playing.

In England over 2 million people actively, regularly, play badminton.By combining skill, speed and subtlety, one can become a top pro.

The tools of badminton are simple: a shuttlecock often referred to as the ‘bird’ or the ‘shuttle,’ and a racket that is strung either with gut or synthetic fibre. The racket is usually about 26 inches long and only weighs about 5 or 5 ½ ounces. And, toddlers can handle the same weight racket as the parents -- if their hands reach around the handle. The cost of equipment?

A pack of shuttles and rackets can be purchased for less than $10 each or you can have yours custom made for quite a bit more. The ‘bird’ is super-light, weighing only 4 to 5 grams. The fourteen to sixteen feathers are fixed onto a kid-leather skin, which is then put into a cork head that is about one inch in diameter. The feathers are what slows the bird down toward the end of its flight across the net.

Winter winds blowing don’t stop the badminton lovers. Played indoors with a net, the sport is a year-round possibility. An empty basketball court suffices, and players are ingenious in finding one that is available. Schools have found that even students who are not athletically inclined can enjoy learning and playing badminton. Many schools offer classes from kindergarten on through high school, increasing the skill level as the students grow.

Hand-eye coordination increases, as does depth perception, concentration, and spatial awareness. Older students learn organizational skills and coaching techniques. And after the school years, adults traveling around the globe can find a large Badminton Club in every major city.

Fast! That’s one word that describes the game itself. That little ‘bird’ can travel in excess of 100 kph. Players lurch, twist, jump, run forwards, backwards, and sideways while lunging to flip the shuttle back to the other side.

The pros will travel more than a mile during a match, and cover almost every inch of the court. Because both the shuttle and the racket are so light, the slightest twist of one’s wrist can direct where the bird will fly.

Fun! Delightful fun! Badminton brings much joy and laughter to the players. When they miss a shot and the bird falls to the floor, the standard excuse is, “There’s a hole in my racket!”

The Rural Beginnings Of The Golf Sport

It is probably best to use the phrase “golf as we know it” when giving the gentlemen of Scotland credit for its invention, however, the origin of golf is open for discussion as to being Chinese, Dutch or Scottish. Scotland is widely recognized as the birthplace of golf. One of the keys to establishing an accurate history of the game is giving credit to the Scots for adding a most important ingredient – the hole.

This important item is one of the key changes in the object of the game. Early golfers near the seashore on the east coast of Scotland hit pebbles and stones, and eventually balls, in a manner similar to games played in Holland and other European countries. But the men of Scotland made a rabbit hole the destination. The modern game grew from these humble beginnings.

The king of England has the dubious honor of having banned the game for a short time in the 15th century and also for making the first recorded purchase of custom made golf clubs. Acceptance of the game by royalty and the eventual establishment of formal clubs helped spread golf along the Scottish coast and later to inland sites.

The Gentlemen Golfers of Leith, widely recognized as the first club devoted to golf, also established the game’s early rules in the early 18th century. A few years later the St. Andrews Society of Golfers came into being, and shortly thereafter, the 18-hole course.

Because of its rural beginnings, the game was first played with sticks that were curved at the end. But with the growth of golf organizations, players began to make clubs of wood and iron. It was about this time that a leather golf ball stuffed with feathers became the standard. Several decades would pass before metal club heads and shafts, along with the gutta percha ball, would vastly improve the length and accuracy of golf shots.

Paintball Can Be The Safest Sport

While membership in the "Extreme Sports" category implies a whiff of danger, only Paintball is handicapped by a huge injury taboo--one that exists in the public mind, but not in the statistics. The industry has long maintained that the rare (but highly publicized) eye injury almost always occurs in an unsupervised, unprotected, often illegal setting; and that Paintball is a very safe activity--a claim substantiated by the current research, as the sport reflected only 0.2 injuries per 1,000 exposures, the lowest injury rate of any Extreme Sport. Put another way, the average player will suffer a Paintball injury about once every 500 years.

Did you know more injuries are reported from basketball and baseball than from paintball? Not many people know that. Ever since paintball began back in the mid 80s, safety was always the number one concern. We've always worn eye protection, although to begin with, it consisted of safety glasses and ski masks . Nowadays, we wear masks specifically made for the sport and tested to high standards. Every manufactured paintball mask must be made to withstand a paintball traveling at least 300 feet per second (fps) or about 201 miles per hour.

Paintball has regulated itself. We have developed rules and guidelines, and all paintball facilities in the world adhere to them strictly. We have never had to be regulated by any agency other than ourselves. That is a credit to the quality individuals and corporations that have made paintball what it is today.

Most of the problems occur when people purchase paintball equipment and play in their backyards or an empty lot. This is dangerous. If you want to ensure everyone's safety with paintball, a regulated paintball field is recommended. The only time paintball gets media coverage is when something goes wrong. There is the rare isolated incidents and most can be avoided by following the safety rules.

On regulated fields, Paintball players must keep their masks on at all times, even at the chronograph. Make sure your marker is shooting under the legal fps limit usually under 300. If you ever have a problem with your tank, never try to fix it yourself. Take it to the field operator or your local pro-shop. Make sure your equipment is in good shape and well maintained.

The paint in paintball is made of a washable substance and are actually editable!!. They are made of gelatin and food coloring. . There are paintball-eating contests all the time at tournaments and events. I don’t recommend it, cause they taste gross but they happen all the time.

Paintball is one of the safest outdoor sports available. The paintballs do not cause injury, but falling down from tripping might. Personally, I have never seen anyone get hurt who was following all of the safety precautions. Paintball is not just aimlessly running around with a marker and shooting your opponents. Oh no. This sport takes practice, determination, strategy, and a lot of money. It can also be a LOT of fun!!!

Sailing Is Not A Complicated Sport

It seems obvious how a sailboat sails downwind: It is pushed along by the wind in its sails. Less obvious is how it can sail upwind or how some sailboats can sail faster than the wind.

Sir Isaac Newton formulated three basic laws that pertain to the motions and accelerations of all objects.

Let us have a look at the third law:

For any force exerted on an object, an equal but opposite force must be exerted by that object onto whatever exerted the force.

A direct consequence of this law is the conservation of momentum (Momentum equals mass times velocity). The conservation of momentum tells us that if the velocity of one thing is somehow changed (in either magnitude or direction) that the velocity of something else must also change accordingly.

Moreover, a large change in velocity of a light object can be balanced by a small change in velocity of a massive object. This is, of course, how a sailboat sails. Because of its large sail area, a sailboat can change the velocity of a huge amount of air in a small amount of direction or speed.

The change of velocity that the sailboat imparts to the air hitting her sails is mainly a change in the direction in which the air is moving. So a sailboat can experience a large driving force even when she is sailing against the wind.

In the real world, there are two forces. One is the wind pushing on the sail when it is changing direction. The air traveling over the leeward surface of the cambered sail creates the second force. It has to travel a longer way to reach the end of the sail (the leech), and as a consequence goes faster. This is causing a pressure differential in accordance with Bernoulli’s principle. (More speed gives less pressure and less speed gives more pressure).

So a sailboat can sail upwind with the addition of these two forces. But remember that the force created by the depression is four times bigger that the one created by pushing the air sideways.

A fluid flow exerts a force upon an object in a direction perpendicular to the uninterrupted flow of that fluid. As a result, a lift is generated. But there is also creation of a drag that is a force acting in the direction of the fluid.Because lift and drag are defined as being perpendicular to one another, any force acting on a sail can, using trigonometry, be divided into a lift component and a drag component. By separating the force into these two components, we can study the relationships between lift, drag, the shape of the sail, and the angle between the sail and the airflow( AOA or Angle Of Attack with the Greek letter).

Sailing is not a complicated sport. Anyone can do it and enjoy it.

Spend time on the water

You just need to take a little time on the water. Trying and collecting experience is one of the best way to learn. I am sure you will have a great time on the water.

You can start just by yourself.

Plenty of sailors started buying, renting, borrowing or otherwise obtaining a boat for their first sail without any knowledge.

Let me say that you have to take care because it could be hazardous to your health.

Get the Right Boat

For a child, learning to sail in a dinghy seems natural. For an adult, it is not so simple. You react less by instinct and fear to go on this unstable machine could surface. For this reason, many people opt for a larger, seemingly more forgiving big boat to learn on.

It is another way, but they miss out on a pure form of sailing not experienced in larger boats. Is it Dangerous?

Which danger could threaten you on a small sailing boat? You could tip over. It is called “Capsize”. Capsizing and learning to right your boat again are all part of the learning process and could be fun.

With the fear of capsize behind you, you will be able to concentrate wholly on sailing maneuvers instead of constantly worrying about getting wet.

Don't wait and Jump

Remember, you told everyone that you would like to become a sailor and go across oceans…

Well, it's time to make good on that.

At first, gauge how you feel about the water.

During your last summer vacation, did you jump right in the water or did you cautiously wade in? Okay, I agree it could depend of the weather and the temperature of the water.

But if you're a jumper, you can stop reading here. Just take a day off from the office, buy or rent a boat, or ask an old friend sailor to come with you, and get out of here!

If you're still with me, then you're a wader. Don’t worry. I am not a jumper too, and I sailed during the last 40 years having fun. It is difficult for me to take the decision to go, but if I fall, by accident,in the (cold) water, it is not such a big problem for me. The more I think about, the less I go…

Have no fear. Nobody is going to splash you. Let's start with dipping our toes into the water. The way to do that with sailing is to go out and buy a few books about the sport. Stay away from anything boring, technical, or overly historical. You need an easy book, with a lot of drawings, and nice to read.

Lobbying, Lobbying

Now let's go to a more serious work. Figure out a way to catch an invitation onto a sailboat. The important thing is to get sailing. You can pay to go on a sailing boat with skipper, or twist a friend’s arm to be invited aboard his next sail. I don’t care the method. You need to go on the water. As a good info, it is very rare to be sick on small boats. You are outside, in the wind, all thing concurring to have you feeling well.

Just take care not to do a race with a crazy guy who will cure you of sailing. You have to start with a mellow sailing day.

Take a Course

It's time to move on to the second step. Find an adult sailing course and sign up for it. Personally, I would recommend taking your first lessons in a small sailing boat, a dinghy. For sailing courses they are designed for beginners. They will give you an immediate response to any shifts in the variables that affect sailing (weight, wind, waves, and weather).

If your wife (or your husband, boyfriend or girlfriend) wants to learn sailing too, take separate classes. It's difficult enough to learn a new sport without having your partner watching over your shoulder at every step of the way.

It will be time later to sail (and should the occasion arise, to fight) all together, as an old couple, on the same boat.

How Trampolining Can Be A Fun But Serious Sport

The sports of trampolining and tumbling are as old as man, a reflection of man's desire to defy the ever-pervading presence of gravity.

A number of cultures have devised apparatus to send an athlete into the air, i.e., an outstretched animal skin being used to throw up, and safely receive, the descending performer. Circuses have used a number of devices to show off aerial and floor somersault activity.

The way these activities are now practiced reflect the intrusion, delightful in this instance, of modern technology. Modern trampolining has only emerged in the last 40-50 years from the prototype apparatus built by George Nissen back in his garage in 1936.

The Air Force, and later the Space Agencies were not slow to employ trampolines with their pilots and astronauts. Medical authorities and those working with handicapped persons have found many exciting benefits from being able to use a trampoline. At the recreational level, trampolining has an immediate appeal, especially for the young people.

Every era produces at least one step forward in the sophistication of a trampoline machine used. The most modern ones are capable of projecting an athlete to such a height that the top stars can touch 10m-high ceilings and perform repetition triple somersaults with ease.

Competitive activity commenced in the US at the conclusion of World War II. The activity spread to Europe in the 1950's and display teams took the activity to all continents in the late 1950's and early 1960's, when many national federations were formed.

In 1964, the International Trampoline Federation (FIT) was formed with seven founder member federations. This number has since swollen to 42.

Championship activity has developed and grown continuously year after year. Annual World Championships were held from 1964, though since 1968, they have been held every other year, with European Championships, started in 1969, and Pan Pacific Championships in 1981, occurring the alternative years.

European Youth Championships have been held every other year since 1972, and the introduction of the World Cup event in 1993 has seen a tremendous interest in the sport, with the television companies giving live coverage to most events throughout the 1993-94 series. Trampolining and Tumbling have been World Games sports since 1981.

What The Sport Of Kickboxing Is All About

Kickboxing is a modern martial art that combines the powerful kicks of Taekwondo and Muay Thai with the basic techniques and hand movements of boxing. It is a rigorous, total body workout comprised of controlled kicking, punching and jabbing movements carried out to the accompaniment of lively music. Kickboxing helps enhance strength, stamina, coordination and flexibility and helps lower anger, stress and frustration.

What Kickboxing Classes are Like

Though kickboxing classes vary depending on the gym as well as the instructor, most kickboxing classes start with 2-3 rounds of jumping rope to warm up and end with a series of stretches to cool down. In between the warm up and cool down sessions are a series of drills set to music including various types of kicks, punch/kick combinations, shadow boxing, jumping jacks, shuffling, calisthenics, abs and push ups.

Whereas in some classes instructors use a variety of props including speed bags, gloves and jump ropes, in other classes most props are simulated. The biggest difference between kickboxing classes and aerobic classes is that there are no intricate routines or complicated choreography to grasp and commit to memory. Moreover, most instructors vary their kickboxing routines from one week to the next so you are always challenged and there’s no room for boredom.

Necessary Equipment for Kickboxing

At it most basic all you need is a sweat suit or a pair of shorts and a T-shirt or a vest. You could choose to work out barefoot or you could wear special wrestling or martial arts shoes. However, to be fully equipped you would require gloves and hand wraps and a jump rope.

The Basics of Kickboxing

Here are a few guidelines that you should keep in mind before you sign up for any kickboxing class:

Determine your current fitness level – It is definitely not a good idea to dive headlong into this high-impact, high-intensity sport; especially if you have not engaged in any form of physical activity for a long time. Before taking up kickboxing it is a good idea to prepare yourself by taking up a less strenuous, low-impact form of exercise and working up to a higher endurance level.

Sign up for an appropriate class – Observe a few classes and see which one suits you in terms of skill level. When you are starting out it may be a good idea to avoid classes that are too complicated, with too many fast moves. Try and sign up for a class that offers you an appropriate level with the opportunity to progress slowly to a more intense and fast-paced level in your own time. If possible, give preference to a class that provides individual instruction after class if necessary.

Don’t over do it – It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the art and attempt maneuvers that are overly complex. The key to doing it right in kickboxing is to start with low kicks and only advance to a higher level when you have learned the proper technique. Extending yourself too much too soon could result in pulled tendons and muscles and sprained knee and ankle joints.

Wear appropriate clothing – Loose, comfortable clothing that offer maximum mobility in all directions are ideal for kickboxing. Hand wraps and gloves are often used but these are optional. The best shoes are cross-trainers as they allow optimum side-to-side movement.

The Sport Of Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a sport that is open to men and women around the world and one that is enjoyed immensely by children because it is something that is thrilling and new. The gymnastics programs for children are designed to prepare them for a better life and many parents enroll their children in gymnastics for the fitness opportunities it offers. There are very few programs that provide children with a fun way to develop all of their muscles and build their confidence too.

Gymnastics allows athletes to express their artistic abilities and their rhythmic talents while performing exercises that are viewed by all as entertaining. Children love to be the center of attention and gymnastics gives them the opportunity to show off and excel in a sport that is fun and one that allows them to do daring things that some of their friends will never get the chance to do. This type of opportunity comes around once in a lifetime, and those that take advantage of it become well-rounded individuals that can take all the stressors in life in stride.

Gymnastics incorporates the use of various pieces of equipment to exude various forms of expression. The gymnast will be required to train on mats while learning, and will be guided in their training programs by coaches every step of the way. They will be tested on their abilities before they are asked to perform complex maneuvers on any of the pieces of equipment.

A gymnast will learn to train their muscles to support their weight while performing on various types of apparatus such as the balance beam, parallel bars, and uneven bars, rings, vault and floor exercises. The gymnast will follow an aggressive training program and develop a surmountable level of energy that will be used to perform various tumbling exercises. Gymnastics allows people to enjoy life because they are in the best physical condition they can be.

Other equipment is used to entertain gymnasts while they are in training. The trampoline serves as a launching point for gymnasts who are learning flips that they will use during their floor exercises programs. For safety reasons, all students are provided with safety harnesses that can be fastened at the waist while they are in training. These devices provide the gymnast with additional support and varying degrees of mobility. Some gymnasts wear them all the time and others choose to wear them when they are unsure of their abilities.

There are many sports that have adapted gymnastics into their training programs. Football players have benefited from gymnastics because it provides them with the dexterity to move more quickly after the ball is snapped. Cheerleading programs have benefited greatly from the tumbling exercises that are part of every gymnastics-training program.

Some cheerleaders would not have been selected for cheerleading if they had not enrolled in a gymnastics program to learn how to perform the cartwheels and handstands that are part of cheerleading. Gymnastics training has a way of adding more zip and zing to people's personalities and will certainly leave all athletes with more energy to excel in their chosen sport.

Is Golf A Sport?

For some reason, many people think of golf as being a boring sport. Actually some even feel that it isn’t a sport at all, at least not comparable to basketball, football, baseball or even hockey. Why could this be? Well, first of all, golf is such a quiet, low-key type of activity that is doesn’t quite seem like a sport. When most people think about sports, they think about a stadium filled with fans whopping and hollering as their favorite teams strives to win the game. Golf is more laid-back, calm. It can actually be considered more of an activity than a sport. A person definitely doesn’t have to be in shape to play it. Unlike physical sports that require players to be in shape, you can be four hundred pounds and play the game of golf without expecting any serious problems. There is really nothing physical about it. All you do is stand there and guide a ball in a hole. And golf carts don’t even require you to walk—you ride to the designated area.

Another reason why people don’t consider golf a sport is because actually, it isn’t. There is no such thing National Golf League, so why would it even be considered a sport in the first place? It shouldn’t be. Golf is a very relaxing recreational activity. It can promote relaxation in stressed-out individuals, and can even be lots of fun. And not only old people play the sport like some people may think. People of all ages, and races play it and think that it is a great hobby or leisure activity. Just because lots of people play golf after retirement doesn’t make it an ‘old timers’ activity. No matter what age you are, if you enjoy playing golf, then you shouldn’t be embarrassed about it.

There are many places for a golfer to buy all of their gear. Local sporting goods stores, malls, and even the internet.

So, even though golf isn’t a sport like football or baseball, with a professional league, players, coaches, etc, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be a very fun, very relaxing activity. Just give it a try, and you may discover that it’s one of the most enjoyable things you’ve ever done in your life.

Your Sport Is Pool

Pocket Billiards tables, sometimes simply called pool tables, are part of a great alternative sport, the Pool or Billiards. For those who wish to spend an evening out with friends and play an exciting new game, pool is also a great start for amateurs. If you have long been searching for your next sophisticated sports game and chess is not anymore one of your options, perhaps it is time for you should to consider playing a game of pool and see how strategy, creativity and determination can be combined. Owning or renting one for a few hours, the pool table can indeed be one of those addictions nobody will advise you ever to drop.

If your basement or living room is spacious enough to accommodate a 7-feet, 8-feet, or 9-feet pool you will soon be able to admire how ingenious such an investment can be. Since it can be easily hidden under flat hardwood table-top surfaces, a pool table can become a multidimensional, exciting dinner table, which you can first use to entertain people by displaying some of your best cooking recipes and later enhance their evening by inviting them to a friendly straight pool competition. If the cost of a pool table exceeds your current financial budget, or if space is not an option either, then initiating a pool game night out with friends, once a month, can be your fun and creative get-together experience. For what its worth, holding a cue, using a chalk to sharpen its end, and most importantly, strike a ball, can certainly get you into a much better mood than sitting around the house watching television or surfing the Net boring yourself to death.

Your selection of a pool table depends on your choice of billiard game. If you prefer the carom instead from the pocket type of game, then your table will not have the six holes found in a pocket type of pool. But if you are an 8-ball, 9-ball, one-pocket, bank pool, or snooker fun, then the pocket pool table seems like an obvious choice. Whichever the table you will purchase or rent, the fact still remains that pool or billiard, is a totally unique experience you have to try at least once in your life.

If, and when, you will select to go with the privately owned pool table option, be sure to get the longest possible service guarantee from your prospective pool table's manufacturer and do not forget to buy pool cues (sticks). Offered in a great selection, for beginners to professional players, cues are one of those necessary accessories you will need to "pull it off" with a pool game. In addition, pool balls, a rack to organize the billiard balls on the table's surface, some specially designed rectangular-shaped blue chalks, a mechanical bridge -used to extend a player's reach on a shot where the cue ball is too far away for normal hand bridging- are some of the things you will need to experience a pool game in full extent.

Globalization And Sport

During the 20th century, sports took on an increasingly international flavor; aside from the world championships for individual sports, like soccer's World Cup, large-scale international meets, such as the Pan-American games and the Commonwealth games, were inaugurated. Sports have correspondingly become increasingly politicized, as shown in the boycott of the 1980 Moscow games by Western nations and the retaliatory boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles games by Soviet-bloc nations, an exchange brought on by Soviet actions in Afghanistan.

Politics directly related with economic issues, influence the course of action one country might choose against another and affect sports as they are a vital part of a nation's role in the global scene. Individual countries during the recent past have boycotted sport events or used them for propaganda reasons and thus, imposed their political views affecting the global scene. Due to the worlds' interest in sport, the power to influence the public becomes a huge issue and has been the reason for many ‘country-battles' in the recent past. At the same time, the commercialism that accompanied spectator sports gradually engulfed both amateur and professional sports. By the late 20th century, the televising of athletic events had made sports big business. On the other hand, expanding public concern with personal physical health led to mass participation, not necessarily competitive, in sports like running, hiking, cycling, martial arts, and gymnastics. Athletic activity by women expanded, especially after political action in the 1960s and 1970s opened doors to many forms of competition and an increased share of public funding for sports.

Economic integration and free trade have and surely will, continue to affect the sports and fitness industry in the future. Countries use sports either to impose their economic power over others, or to elevate their current role. Due to sport's great costs, counties' governments engage themselves in promoting and supporting these economic needs by authorising special public monetary programs or by seeking private financing. Corporate sponsorships are today a reality, as companies spend about $6 billion annually sponsoring activities ranging from the Olympic Games to the World Cup. The popularity of sponsored events is due to several reasons. They enhance the reputation and image of the sponsor, they provide a focal point for marketing efforts and sales campaigns, and they generate publicity and media coverage. More cost-effective than advertising, sponsorships include prestige and at times target a worldwide audience. Broadcasting rights, ticket sales, merchandising, and sponsorships, are the main reasons of sport's unique role in a country's strategy.

Living today in the information age, with amazing revolutions in technology and communication, sport experts believe that sport is greatly influenced by the actions of individual nations, as well as by the international trends that influence the world economy. Moreover, being a spectacle, sport athletes have become professionals that through them their country's culture is promoted and their achievements contribute to the country's fame. Thus, the sport and fitness industries, as part of our Global Society, have become lately an issue of great concern. Studies worldwide provide valuable information about the political, geographical, economic, cultural, social, aesthetic and historical aspects of sports and it is firmly believed that they will continue ‘shaping' one another in the years to come.

Sport Fishing

If you like sport fishing, you surely will like to fish for redfish. Redfish is a common name for a range of species of fish throughout the English-speaking world. It is commonly applied to members of the deep-sea genus Sebastes, or the reef dwelling snappers, Lutjanus. It is also applied to the slimeheads or roughies (family Trachichthyidae), and the alfonsinos (Berycidae). This feisty species is one of the best fighters in the inshore spectrum and, if cooked correctly, a great addition to the barbeque menu. Even some restaurants have adopted the fish as a specialty. For example, at the famous Redfish Seafood Grill and Bar on Bourbon Street, New Orleans, they headline, “At Redfish, we serve up a parade of award-winning French Quarter specialties, including classics like Blackened Redfish, Crawfish Etouffee and Jambalaya.”

Young redfish, or red drum as they are often called, feed in the shallows on clams, crabs, mussels and shrimp. Red drum are an inshore species until they attain roughly 30 inches (4 years), then they migrate to join the near-shore population; spawning occurs from August to November in near-shore waters; sudden cold snaps may kill red drum in shallow, inshore waters; feeds on crustaceans, fish and mollusks; longevity to 20 years or more.

The fish gets its common name from the copper bronze large scales on their bodies, which are darker in cloudy water and lighter in clear waters, but the most distinguishing feature is a dark spot at the top of the base of the tail. For the fisherman, however, the most recognizable feature is the tail disturbing the water in the calm shallows and frequently breaking the surface. The sight of a dozen or more redfish “tailing” as this foraging behavior is called is enough to set the adrenaline coursing through the veins of the most hardened sportsman.

Catching redfish is like all fishing. You just have to be in the right place at the right time with the right bait and tackle.

A fishing rods strength or lifting power is determined by its action. A light action rod has a low strength, making it ideal for casting light lures and fighting smaller fish, whereas a heavy action rod is much stronger, and therefore suitable for fighting big brutes like Giant Mekong Catfish. Most rod manufactures offer rods varying from Light to Heavy, but the extreme classes Ultra Light and Extra Heavy do also exist. Use a light medium action rod because you could end up doing a lot of casting before you finally lure your trophy specimen onto the hook, and use the lightest line you feel comfortable with. Just remember to set the drag accurately (the pro’s will actually use a scale and set it to sixty percent of nominal breaking strain).

The right time is easy, fish the feeding grounds on the flats and oyster bars on the rising tide and till just after the tide turns and fish the hiding places in the troughs and sloughs on the ebb. The most reliable spots are on the edge of the mangroves close to deep water. This gives the combination of a great feeding spot with an easy escape route when threatened.

As far as bait is concerned, if you are fishing for the pan, use live bait. Live animals such as mealworms, red worms, night crawlers, leeches, maggots, crayfish, reptiles, amphibians and insects may be used as bait on all waters not restricted to artificial flies and lures. Toss your bait or lure as close to the mangroves as you dare, let it sink for a few seconds, then retrieve slowly. Redfish tend to wave their tails slowly when feeding. When the strike comes, you will know all about it, and the fish will do all the work of setting the hook. Your job will be to get the fish away from the mangroves and then to enjoy the fight of your life. This is when the challenge of light tackle fishing will tax your skill and fill your psyche with pride.

Happy fishing, and look out for the recipe coming soon! Just remember, if you are not going to eat the fish, release it unharmed. Always respect your local fishing regulations.

What Is An Extreme Sport?

An extreme sport is a category of sport that involves more thrills than competition. That is not to say that all extreme sports are strictly for the fun of it and there is no competition. For instance; skateboarding on special U shaped courses is judged and a winner declared. Another example is hot dogging. This is skiing in a manner that employs acrobatics. The judges decide who wins according to how well the competitors perform flips and such.

Other extreme sports do not involve competition at all. Bungee jumping would be a good example. Another example would be base jumping. Here the person simply participates for the thrill of it. Whether competition is involved or not, extreme sports are far more thrilling and normally far more dangerous than let's say a game of tennis or basketball. Thisextreme sport forum is to teach those who don't normally pay close attention to these activities how to differentiate extreme sports from normal sports.

There are competitions set up in many places around the world where competing is the number one purpose. These sport meets will pit the best against each other to see who can best maneuver their skateboard along a dangerous course or who can do the best performance of moving their body through various positions while in mid-air on a motorcycle jump.

Whatever the sport is, extreme sports has gathered a lot of fans over the last decade and a half. Even television has picked up on this and it is common to see these events televised in many parts of the world. Normally, people don't get seriously hurt but think of what could happen if a motorcycle rider moves the wrong way and looses control of his motorcycle while 15 meters off the ground in the middle of a jump. Even the skateboarders like to skate on railings that are designed with safety in mind. When you descend steps you should hold on to a railing so if you slip you can prevent a fall. Now, if you use this railing to skateboard down it isn't really being used as designed and can be hazardous.

Whatever the extreme sport is; be prepared to get banged up unless you are smart and decide to be a spectator. One good thing about enjoying extreme sports as a spectator is that it isn't anymore dangerous than watching regular sports.

The Sport Of Airsoft vs. The Sport Of Paintball Part II

In the previous article of The Sport of Airsoft vs. The Sport of Paintball, we established one of the major differences between the two sports is the actual guns, and not necessarily the cost. I would now like to turn to the conditions of each sport and what they entail.

I have recently seen more and more professional Paintball games being played and broadcasted on Television. I watch the teams compete and the strategy they import to the playing fields. With no offense towards these Paintball teams, I have to say I don’t see much strategy used, especially in “SpeedBall.”

It always seems to come down to the same thing and same strategy for every team. Get your sprinters to get in close, making sure the first line is spread out while the back field players shoot as much and as fast as they can. Now, I know that most people think that this is strategy, but in my experience any Joe Blow who can move their index and middle finger fast enough can get into the sport.

When I first started participating in Paintball games I had a rental gun that wasn’t so accurate or effective from a long distance. I remember that a guy on the other team had a great gun with a double tap trigger and stood in the very back of the field shooting tons of paint towards our team. I understand that he was using the only strategy that he knew to work, but to me that contradicts the game.

In that specific case there is no sport involved, it has everything to do with equipment. I could only imagine if they had five other people standing back there doing the same thing. How much fun would that be?

So is strategy involved in Airsoft, or a better strategy that involves more than just equipment? I want to make a note that better equipment will definitely optimize your sport experience, but I don’t think a sport should solely rely on having the best equipment. It takes the fun out of the game and sooner or later it takes the strategy out as well.

Personally, I would much rather be holding a sniper rifle with a long range scope, backing my team up from an elevated level several hundred feet behind them and making sure that their every move is safe. Or posted on the flank while skirmishing through a thick set of woods holding an M16 fully-automatic machine gun, backed up with a 9milimeeter strapped to my ankle incase I needed it for some close combat.

Gaming can take place in an open field with no barriers or a 100-yard field full of trees, brush, and bushes. This all happens while talking on the radio, knowing every location my team is in. This makes for some extreme planning and strategy, not to mention some extreme fun.

So what sport is emerging and what sport is becoming the ‘equipment war’ rather than a sport? When it comes to The Sport of Airsoft versus The Sport of Paintball I would have to choose Airsoft, and not just because of the costs or the clean up, but simply because of the realistic features and adventures involved. From the guns to the gaming it makes more sense to have fun in a realistic game of warfare without the death part.

In any case, when it comes to sport, I would have to say crawling on the ground under brush or posting yourself 35 feet in the air decked out in camouflage sniping people from an elevated position is more sport than standing in the back of a field loading and shooting, loading and shooting as fast as you can. In other words I think it is evident which sport is actually emerging and unfortunately which equipment race is on its way out.

The Sport Of Airsoft vs. The Sport Of Paintball Part I

As the Sport of Airsoft grows in popularity today, many enthusiasts of both the Sport of Airsoft and the Sport of Paintball have debated over the differences and similarities, in the comparisons of both sports. Questions eventually come to the following: Which sport is better? What sport is more cost effective? What is the difference between Airsoft guns and Paintball guns? Finally, which sport is geared toward a larger demographic of people? I will briefly examine both sides of the Airsoft and Paintball argument and hopefully come to an opinion on which sport is emerging and which sport is fading out.

The initial argument between the Sport of Airsoft and the Sport of Paintball has been the cost differences between each sport. However, if you take a closer look at the costs for each sport you will find that both sports have an initial investment. For both sports, if you want to get completely decked out in every form of equipment available you are looking to spend up into the hundreds of dollars and sometimes into the thousands. There are variations in the pricing, but let’s say you use tons of ammo in Airsoft and not so much (which I think is unlikely) in Paintball then you will spend more on ammo for Airsoft (again this is very unlikely). This money can be spent over a period of time if you are not seriously trying to compete in the sports.

Most people continue to talk about the costs and how one sport is cheaper than the other but it depends on what you want and what you are looking for in each sport that will actually determine what you will spend. This includes everything from the gun, equipment and ammo, to the upgrades. In other words, either sport can be relatively cheap or relatively expensive, it all depends on you.

So if the money is not so important (well it’s important to most, and trust me I am all about getting the best for my money) what are the differences between the sports that one can draw a clear contrast about? What makes one sport different from the other? One of the major differences are the guns for each sport.

All Paintball guns, also known as “Markers,” have a similar style and look, only varying in specifications rather than in styles. There’s not much more to the variations except the quality and effectiveness of the Paintball guns. There is hardly any diversity or character when it comes to each gun simply because they are made to specifications.

Airsoft guns have 1:1 scale replicas. This means they actually look like the real thing, so much so that all the guns come with a federally mandated orange tip. It is interesting to note that these guns also come with metal components making even the weight of the replica guns very similar to the actual gun. Plus, you can find many of the guns that you would have some interest in using, like an M16, Sniper Rifle, or an AK47. Some would say this is scary, but others (including the Airsoft enthusiast) would consider this a great way to own an arsenal that is not lethal, nor illegal for that matter.

I know the reader might be saying that as far as cost’s are concerned, “one cannot draw a conclusion on which sport out does the other,” but as we have looked into the matter deeper we have found that realistic attributes can make a big difference in what you would want to participate in. In fact it makes all the difference for me!

In this part one of The Sport of Airsoft vs. The Sport of Paintball we have concluded that that money or cost has no bearing on whether the Sport of Airsoft is better than the Sport of Paintball.
